I sigh when I arrive in the kitchen and find Merlin sitting on the breakfast chair, a bottle of what looks like mezcal in front of him along with two shot glasses.

I escaped the gym after Corina’s rather sudden declaration that Caleb is her Mate – lovely fucking news by the way, not like it doesn’t complicate any fucking thing at all – and left her with her brothers as I felt that was a confrontation I wanted no part in.

With that thought in mind, I decide to sit next to Merlin, who pours me a glass of the clear alcohol.

“I haven’t had mezcal before.” I confess, but shoot the entire glass down my throat anyway. “Holy shit, it burns.”

I shake my head a bit, making him chuckle.

“Mexicans love that burn, so I figured you’d like it too,” he states with a smile at me. “You look like you need a couple of 'em anyway.”

I nod, agreeing with him. “I need more than a couple, if I’m honest, but I think I need to stay completely sober for a while now.” I mutter.

He pours me another glass, and I toss it back too. I sigh heavily when I look through my empty glass.

“All these factors to the problems in this house make me wonder exactly what the fuck I might’ve signed into by staying with Sebastian.” I confess again, then write it off as the alcohol getting to me. “I can’t decide whether to get the fuck out of here and continue hunting down my father’s true killer – since we all now know that my Mate isn’t responsible for it – or stay here and support the people I’m starting to see as family.”

There’s a moment of silence from Merlin, as he seems to maul over what I just said. He seems to really take everything into consideration as he pours another shot for the both of us.

“Have you ever thought what you were going to do with your life once you discover who your father's true killer is and find your family - if they're still alive of course?” he asks suddenly, and I look at him.

“You think I haven’t planned this shit out yet?” I question. “The answer is simple, Merlin. When I find the motherfucker who ruined my life, I’m going to skin them alive before dumping them in a pool of boiling oil. Then I’m hightailing it with the relatives I have left and getting the fuck out of Dodge.”

He goes silent yet again, which makes me wonder what exactly he’s thinking. I decide to drink my shot before pouring myself another.

“Personally, I think you should stay here. Develop your relationship with your Mate, maybe.” He states with an even tone. I look at him skeptically. “A bond like the both of you have is beautiful. Don’t lose sight of it in your quest of vengeance.”

I look down, and I hum, pretending to think about it.

In other words: stay here and have Sebastian's babies? Hell no!

“I’ll take that into consideration,” I say before drinking my shot, “speaking of my Mate, I need to see if he’s doing alright.”

I get up from my chair and head for Sebastian's office.

“I hope he isn’t too hard on Corina.” Merlin murmurs.

I stop, but I don't turn around.

"What do you mean?" I ask, keeping my voice calm.

“This revelation has been troubling her for weeks beforehand," he explains, "so have it happening to her in such a manner must be quite overwhelming for her.”

I nod, understanding what he says completely.

Looks like Corina and I are having quite an interesting week.
