When James and I arrived together at the ER, the atmosphere was unsettling. Max and Liam were nowhere to be found. Harry and Louis were sitting on two opposite sides of the room, looking like they were refraining from strangling each other, Zayn was sitting by himself in the corner of the waiting room, clenching and unclenching his fists every couple of seconds and I had no idea what to do... Besides gulp of course.

"W-Where's Liam?" I breathe shakily, pointing my words to Harry who seemed to be the safest option right about now.

"He's in there with her while they operate. They're doing an emergency operation and he got to go in there because he knows the surgeon." He explains softly.

"And Max?" I huff, knowing how shattered he sounded on the phone.

"He's in the security office." He snorts in response. "He almost barged the door down to get in the operating room, so they had to remove him."

I couldn't help but sigh, grabbing onto James' wrist to sit him down next to Harry. Besides my curly-haired best friend, the atmosphere was next to toxic. You could see Louis wanting to kill me, Harry and Zayn. It was also hard to miss the scowl James was receiving off my ex. I couldn't care what he thought though. He wanted to end it.

"What happened?" James asks politely, biting down on his bottom lip.

"Max thinks one of Shark's men cut her off unexpectedly when they were on their way to the reception." He breathes carefully. "She was wearing a helmet... Woulda' died if she wasn't."

"A-And how is her health? Is she okay? Is the baby okay?" I reply shakily.

"She's got a few mean grazes up her arms and legs, she's fine and all. The only reason she's in surgery is because they're trying to save the baby." Harry explains and I wince, looking at my lap. This group didn't need another death.

"Fuck." I wince. "That can't happen... Not to Scarlett."

"I know." Harry mutters. "Family means a lot to her."

"Family means a lot to everyone." I whisper, feeling the heat radiating off Louis and Zayn who seemed to keep quiet throughout all of this and with their tempers, I'm glad they did.

"We're not gonna' find anything out tonight." Harry huffs. "The doctor came in and told us that everything is going slow. The operation is going to take a while."

"I'll stay up. I don't care." I say firmly. "I-I know she's mad at me but she never left me when I was in hospital."

"She's mad at you?" Harry breathes.

"Well... They both are." I retort. "But I'll explain it later, there's too many people here."

He lets out a goofy grin, probably knowing who I was talking about and my insides deflated in relief. He seemed to be okay, considering the squabble today between him and Louis. He didn't look hurt, nor did he seem like he had been crying. He was being his usual drama-loving self.

Besides, if Louis really hurt Harry, then I would be using his lucky gun to serve a nice dose of karma for touching my best friend like that.

"Do you want coffee? I'm about to run to the café." James whispers over to me and I nod pulling out my wallet.

"No, I've got it." He places his hand on my knee gently. "I'll just get your regular?"

"No froth?" I question quickly.

"No froth." He displays that charming smile and I couldn't help but watch him longingly as he left the waiting room, shoving his hair to the side.
