DARYL

"Stay for a minute?"  Carol put her hand on my arm.

I reluctantly stop on the porch outside the auditorium. Watchin the others as they file past us, heading off to start on their designated tasks.

I'm anxious to go find Nate, then join Jorge and the others. Get on with all the things we have left to do before tomorrow.

Maybe aim an arrow at Tara's ass first?

"That was quite a story of Jorge's, huh. You already knew I presume?"  Carol's stalling for some reason and I'm startin to get impatient.

Just nod my head and close my eyes.

Deal, Dixon....deal....

When Rick finished running through the final plans and asked if anyone had somethin to say?

Jorge sure as fuck did.

And in his own quietly confident way, he gave the gathered audience the bare bones.

Teen in the grip of gang life. Finally gettin caught and facing a few years in an adult prison instead of juvie. Being given the choice between that or military service, he took the latter option. Worked his way up into the Rangers....and then well  beyond.

Merle had almost done the same thing. Except he ended up with a prison sentence regardless, thanks to his temper.

Ten years later and discharged with honours, it's little wonder Jorge was approached by a private 'security'  company. And for another dozen years or so until the end of the world, he went to battle again.

The pay of a professional soldier....mercenary? Was probably a shitload better than anything the government's elite forces could offer, I'm bettin.

Lots of folk who'd gotten to know him were as shocked as Carol. But Jeezus, what the fuck did they think his old occupation was? Given the stuff he does and knows.

Kindergarten teacher, underwear sales....beauty pageant director?

Then he got to the point.

Ninety or so miles northeast just outside of Dover is his old company headquarters. Has all kinds of weaponry and other stuff. Three-day round trip max, depending on the roads and walkers.

He'll hopefully be back with enough firepower for us to put an end to the Saviors once and for all. And with shitloads left over to see us through for a long while beyond as well. If it's all still there, that is.

"I appreciate what you're saying, but like I told you last week. After all our losses....we can't spare you.  Let alone the manpower you'll need to get there safe and help bring it back."

"It's been ten days without a peep from them. Can't help feeling we're all living on borrowed time."

"We stick with the plan. I'll have a re-think about your idea if we have no other choice remaining. Definitely will  do it, once the Saviors are dealt with."

Rick shut him down and for the first time ever, I saw Jorge start to seriously steam.

Me? My inner volcano was spewin lava again.

Jorge suggested it to Rick....A FUCKIN WEEK AGO? The man would've been there and home by now!

I'd have gone with him and all this could've been done with already. The Saviors absolute history by now.

Shit, Rick!

Deal, Dixon....deal....
