My chest was bleeding and I didn't have the strength to get up. Grace' mom came behind from her shoulders looking at me. She was also crying. Mr. Carter was talking with the head policeman and signing some papers. He looked very unhappy.
"Mom we can't leave him like this"! Grace said with tears dropping down to the ground from her eyes. Mrs. Carter called The Woodberry Animal hospital. I didn't have any power, I couldn't keep my eyes open. I slowly closed them. When I opened my eyes I found my self in a small cage in an operating room. I tried to get up but I couldn't. My chest was wrapped in bandages.
It was hard to breathe with them. There was a small tub attached to my paw. I didn't really like it but I didn't try to play with it or take it off.
A nurse came in "He's awake." she said. Another doctor came in the room. She looked very tired but also very strict.
"Bring him up to the table, I want to see how well he is". The nurse took me out of my cage and put me on a small table in the corner. I got scared. They made me lie down backwards so that the doctor could see the bandages. I didn't want her to touch me. She carefully took off the bandages to see the stitches. They looked okay and they were healing.
"Tell the little girl in the hallway and her family that he is healing". Little girl? That must be Grace. I really wanted to see her.
I tried to get up but the nurse was just pushing me down.
"I'll put him back in his cage, you go ahead". said the doctor. The nurse gave me to the doctor. When the nurse went away from the room I wanted to go after her, but the doctor just took me in another room with all the other dogs. She put me in a cage and put a blanket in it. Just before she went she checked my wounds. I lied down and looked through the bars. I just stared at a huge white wall.
