Vōtīvus: Pertaining to a vow; promised by a vow
»»———————————————————««

You took a vow, to protect the one sacred thing that was responsible for the world's turmoil and suffering, promising it would never fall into the wrong hands. So regardless of what you had forever dreamed of doing with your life, you were stuck as it's guardian.

Although you had gotten used to the lonely eternity fate had bestowed upon you, with each passing moment your mind couldn't help the senseless wandering of your imagination. Stuck atop the mountain hidden away from all of humanity, you constantly wondered what it would be like to journey across the unending horizon.

The lavish entangle of plants that provided a thick canopy above you, and the surrounding life that blossomed had become a boring sight. The twinkling lights that shone from the towns below intrigued you more than anything, wondering what the source was. For all you knew, stars had forever hung above in the night sky, so were those lights below not the same thing?

Finding yourself entranced in their beauty night after night, you had longed to witness the sight up close, spending your lonely time trying to replicate the sight. The lightning bugs that occasionally flitted up to your sanctuary never reached the same level of beauty of those sparkling lights below, and even the ethereal glow of the moon that cast iridescent colors in the reflecting water couldn't compare.

You could say the life of curiosity had amused you for as long as you could remember, wanting, begging for a taste of the sights you had seen, and the tales you had read. The spirits upon your mountain had provided a false sense of company, and truly you had realized the lack of human contact had left you deprived of emotion and belonging.

You belonged to the mountain, you belonged to the sacred blue spider lily you protected, but was it really a sense of belonging? You were just a mere tool, forgotten among the world as you were left discarded on the flourishing mountaintop.

You had forgotten what your family and friends looked like, unable to recall their names or faces, if you even had any. Would they remember you? You were pretty sure not a single soul knew about your existence. but you supposed it had to be that way, to ensure the safety of the single azure plant.

Everything comes with a price.

But just as you least expected it, the entangle of loneliness had finally unraveled to reveal a pleasant surprise. That day would forever be engraved in your treasured vault of memories.

Sitting upon the flat grassy surface beneath one of the towering wisteria trees, its shade covering you from the bright afternoon sun, your weary eyes skimmed over yet another page of the book you had read at least a thousand times. A sullen sigh passed your lips as the book was tossed lazily behind you.

Oh how you wished you had something new to entertain your poor soul.

Falling back to lay upon the feathery ground, you watched the purple blossoms entangle through the treetops to then weep their branches downwards. Your eyes flicked over to the small vibrant patch of grass surrounded by a gently flowing pond in the midst of the mountain, a single blue lily swaying in the soft breeze.
