Altschmerz: The weariness from the same old issues you've always had.
»»———————————————————««

Sanemi could tell from the darkening sky that today would be dreary. The grey clouds rolled ominously up above, the sun hidden behind their rumbling paths as the morning was greeted with an eerie fog. It was a bit chilling, but that hadn't mattered much to him.

Nagged by his poor mother to button up the rest of his uniform for once, he trudged along the milky sidewalk on his way to school, hands shoved deep within his pockets as his nose buried into the soft fabric of his striped green and white scarf. The warm season was beginning to fade away, the sight of fallen orangey hued leaflets crumpled beneath his heavy feet accompanying the turn in weather.

A silent walk to school, passing through his empty neighborhood as it seemed he was the only student who took this path each and every morning. It was lonely, but Sanemi didn't mind. He didn't mind the silence that enveloped him in a peaceful trance, merely focusing on his own long strides. Passing through the front gates, he would usually be greeted by the occasional friend of his lurking about, but this particular morning it seemed everyone was in a rush to get inside.

Cold droplets of the morning dew had clung desperately along the fogged windows, shielding the curious eyes inside from any wonders behind the ghostly panes. It was hard to see a mere few feet before him, but regardless it took him the usual time to get to his class.

Then yet another uneventful day had begun, the droning lectures that easily filled up every moment of each period, and the solemn silence that echoed throughout each class. It seemed that the poor weather had gotten the best of everyone, for it was mixed with a dreadful day in the middle of the school week and each student mimicked a glossy-eyed zombie of their own.

Scratching a few discarded notes along his book, Sanemi still focused on the subject at hand. Usually, he would be captivated by the simple logic of his mathematics classes, but as he stared down at the unsolved equation, his mind remained blank.

Closing the book rather early before the end of the period, his wisteria eyes wandered to the translucent glass along the outside wall. It seemed that the weather hadn't gotten any better throughout the first hours of the day, so he heaved a quiet sigh of discontent, flicking his gaze elsewhere.

The clock that hung overhead indicated that there was still a few minutes left until he was to be dismissed, so his head lowered to lazily rest atop his desk. Peeking over his folded arms, he eagerly waited the bell.

Now despite from his own little group of friends, Sanemi was known to be rather strict about his studies, taking no time to get to know the other students in his class, or in the rest of the academy for that matter, so it was odd that his eyes swept over the body of students before him. Out of all the unfamiliar faces, the girl sitting beside him (he hadn't even known her name) stood out amongst the rest.

It was nothing memorable, but the various colored band-aids curled around your slender fingers made his scowl deepen. They ranged from pastel blues to bright neon oranges, an assortment of flowers and stripes and even polka dots stretching along each one. Every bandage was unique and different with its design, as you only exposed the ones encircling your peeking fingertips, which had your hands hidden along the insides of your uniform sleeves.
