Kairos: The perfect, delicate, crucial moment; the fleeting rightness of time and place that create the opportune atmosphere for action, words, or movement.

It was a blessing to see how spring had arrived so quickly that year. The harsh winter was long gone, its chilling winds and heavy snowstorms far out of sight as the earth blossomed into something beautiful. All the new beginnings brought along with it calmed Sanemi's soul, and he could only smile to himself as he reminisced the wonderful past year.

Situated along a lone bench outside a gated path, he lazily peered at the simple wristwatch clasped around his arm, shuffling to gather the plethora of papers beside him. Shoving most of them deep inside the bag at his feet, Sanemi snuck another glance to the inside of the school grounds.

It had been like this as long as he could remember, waiting with a dwindling patience and a heart full of longing, sitting at this lonely spot to await the highlight of his every day. Now as the cherry blossoms above had burst into full blossom, he could comfortably wait without the lingering frigidness of winter nipping harshly at his skin.

A single blossom had plucked itself from darkened branches with the faint whisper of wind, fluttering down in all directions to finally land in the man's lap. Chuckling at the sight, he carefully pinched it up to gaze upon its pale petals. It was soon tucked into the safety of his breast pocket of his button-down.

Just faintly could he hear the jumbled childish murmurs from behind, growing in intensity as their figures approached to leave the grounds. Easily towering over the small children, he scanned the area like usual, gathering his belongings while rising from his seat. It was mere moments later until a familiar voice called out to him.

"'Tou-chan!"

And a small girl sped through the crowd of her classmates to meet the standing man. Her identical white hair bounced with each step, bright wisteria eyes mirroring Sanemi's as she stood up on wobbly tiptoes with arms outstretched. Instantly scooping his daughter up in scarred arms, his smile grew at the sight of her innocent expression.

"How was school?" Shuffling to balance his own bag along with the girl's, Sanemi easily carried the extra weight while turning to leave the dismissed building. The girl hooked her arms around his neck, leaning to press her cheek against his own. A soft hum left her lips, blinking her wisteria eyes a few times.

"Boring."

Sanemi raised a brow.

"Boring?"

Confirming her words with a nod, the girl offered a small pout, snuggling close to Sanemi. Hugging the girl tighter, her next innocent words made his heart thump quickly within his chest. "I wish I could go to school with you, 'tou-chan. Or stay home with 'kaa-chan..."

Shifting the weight in his hands, Sanemi reached to teasingly poke her puffed-out cheeks, chuckling softly at the annoyed expression along her face. Something about these simple moments made the man wish he could forever experience such peace, because truly now seemed to be perfect.

The girl held protectively in his arms meant the absolute world to him, and he swore that he'd protect his growing family with his own life. Never would he allow such an innocent soul to experience the same pain and horrors of his own childhood, and now he had the chance to prevent all that from ever happening.

So with moments like these, Sanemi couldn't dare ask for anything more, because this was all he had ever wished for. To love and cherish a daughter of his own, he felt reborn, just like the passing seasons and arrival of a new spring.

Reaching a familiar doorstep that marked the end of that short little walk, the girl in his arms was carefully placed on her feet with the slightest hesitance. Fishing for his keys somewhere in his pockets, only did he remember the little token from earlier. Reaching for the protected blossom, it was offered out in scarred hands.

The girl eagerly picked up the blossom, yet its already wilting form hadn't mattered in the slightest. Settling for a quiet form of gratitude, she hopped up to place a quick peck along Sanemi's cheek, taking not a second more to rush through the now opened door.

"'Kaa-chan! 'Kaa-chan, look!"

Sanemi couldn't care less if the girl had so messily rushed through the door, leaving her pair of shoes scattered along the floor of the foyer, and her bag thrown aside. A fluttering feeling filled his chest, and he couldn't suppress the growing smile along his lips.

He had to make quick work of discarding his own belongings, because the sight awaiting his returning form was far more rewarding. Reaching the end of the hall, returning home to his own little family rekindled the love and joy he felt for being lucky enough to have such a blessing. His wife easily distracted by the bouncing form of his daughter had him suppressing a laugh, which finally caught your attention.

"Sanemi, welcome home!"

Offering the man a bright smile of your own, you carefully rounded the kitchen counter to meet him halfway. Laying a gentle kiss along your lips, Sanemi pulled back to gather your hands in his own.

Before you both had a moment to appreciate the simple gestures of love, a voice called out yet again to gain your attention. Sanemi hadn't minded much, taking this new opportunity to wrap his arms around you as you consoled your attention-seeking daughter.

The sounds of her childish giggles and your soft voice fell deaf upon his ears, because holding you like this was already more than enough for him. Resting his chin along your shoulder, his hands carefully slid to hold the small curve of your stomach, and then did Sanemi fall in love all over again.
