The pages fell from your hand as Mayor Guldyn watched your reaction.
"I read it shortly after she gave it to me" he confessed "I don't know if I should have ..."
You didn't reply. He went to pick up the pages while putting them back in the envelope and you examined your father's ring.
"What are you going to do?" he asked after a while of silence.
You shook your head.
"Aalyn... I think it's best if we forget everything. This... This is all too much. You should stay with us in Hayltel, at least for a while. You will have plenty of time to think about all this"
You sighed and put your hands to your head. You felt it was about to explode.
"I'll leave you alone for a while... I'll be outside"
He started to leave but before he crossed the threshold of the door, you addressed him with a soft and slow voice:
"Before I got here... As soon as I saw the forest burned to the ground... I thought I had lost everything. I had no hope to continue fighting"
Mayor Guldyn turned.
"But this letter... This letter is precisely the reason why I must continue"
"Aalyn..."
"I've spent my whole life wondering why I was doing what I was doing. I joined the army with the purpose of using my power to do good. At last my life had a goal. But this changes everything..." you said showing him the ring "I've always dreamed of a fairer world, and now only I have the key to make it come true"
"But it's very dangerous..."
"Guldyn... If I don't reach the throne, this world will continue to be in misery. And if I fail, at least the world will remember the queen who fought to death to regain the world we once lost"
Moments later, you and Guldyn left the house while everyone waited outside. The boys addressed you, but you and Guldyn climbed onto a bench while everyone looked at you strangely.
"Kneel before Her Majesty Queen Aalyn!" Guldyn announced as he knelt down and you reached out showing the royal ring.
Everyone was stunned. When those in the front row saw the ring with their own eyes, there was no doubt. Only the heir to the Royal Family could possess that ring. They all knelt down while exclaiming at the top of their lungs:
"Long live the Queen!"
However, the hubbub you had generated also led many to not believe you or even branded you as a thief. The missing princess was a myth that no one could joke about, so your words were shocking to many. Everyone started arguing and trying to talk to you, but the noise didn't let you understand anything. And at that moment, as if a superior force possessed you, you shouted at the top of your lungs:
"Shut up!"
Everyone hushed suddenly and looked at you. You began to speak in the Eastern language showing the ring:
"Now I have no strength left to continue, so we will stay here... But when I order it, we'll go to Lyned. Lyned will warn the other capitals and we'll all summon an army. The largest army that has ever been seen. And so, all together, we'll go to Emmeldris and we'll face Dryon face to face! Enough of fleeing! Enough of misery and poverty! Let's end this war once and for all! Until now I didn't want to admit it. I thought it would be too arrogant of me... But I'm the wielder of the Great Power. And not only that. Now I'm also the Queen of Emmeldris. And I won't give up what I am! I won't hide! I will regain my throne and your freedom. So... Are you all with me? "
All the soldiers yelled in favor of your words and began to applaud you.
"Long live the Queen!" they exclaimed full of euphoria.
You looked at everyone with tears in your eyes while the Hayltelians looked everywhere confused and Guldyn approached you:
"So... What does what you said mean?" he asked you.
"That the queen is back" you replied with a smile as several crows watched the scene carefully and flew back to Emmeldris.
