"Congratulations Graduates of Batch 2019-2020!" the host announced as students and parents hugged each other.
"Congrats, anak," mom said as she kissed my cheeks while giving me a bouquet of flower.
"Thanks mommy," hinalikan ko rin ang cheeks niya.
"Oh, Dad!" sabi ko nung makita na papalapit si Daddy.
"Sorry, hindi ako nakaabot. Medyo traffic," then he gave a small smile to mommy. Tinanguan lang siya ni mommy tapos bumaling sa akin.
"I should go now. Ang dami ko pang pending cases." sabi niya na hindi tumitingin kay Daddy.
"Mom, Dad, let's take a picture," I held mommy's hands.
"Kylie," tawag ni Daddy para pigilan ako.
"Please. Just this once," Dahil sa pamimilit ko ay napapayag ko sila. Ang awkward ng atmosphere.
"I should go now," mommy said as she made her exit.
"Saan ka pupunta after nito?" tanong ni Daddy noong kaming dalawa na lang.
"I'll go to my condo na lang Dad, wala naman akong ibang pupuntahan."
"Do you want to eat dinner with us later?" he asked. I gave an awkward smile. I'm not sure if I will be able to eat with them.
Napatawad ko na si Daddy sa ginawa niya sa amin ni Mommy pero hindi ko alam kung kaya ko silang harapin.
"Your Tita Lucy prepared something for you,"
"Dad, I'm not sure if it's okay, with mom," sagot ko naman. I appreciate Tita Lucy reaching out to me pero syempre, kailangan ko ring isaalang- alang yung feelings ni Mommy.
"I'm sure your mom has moved on."
Dad cheated to us with Tita Lucy. I don't know how to call it. Nauna siyang nagkaanak sa kanya bago kay Mommy.
All I know is that mas matanda yung kapatid ko ng one year. He cheated on my mom all throughout their marriage years. 4 years ago lang namin nalaman ang lahat.
This made my mom furious dahil more than 15 years na pala kaming niloloko ni Daddy. When he was asked kung bakit niya nagawa sa amin iyon, ang sagot ni Daddy ay dahil laging busy si Mommy sa trabaho noong mga panahong iyon. Mommy just passed the bar back then so she was struggling to find a job.
Nag- drive na lang ako papunta sa condo ko. I'm sure Indira, my best friend is celebrating with her family. Sometimes I envy her. Buo at kumpleto ang pamilya niya samantalang ako, hindi ko alam.
Si Daddy, may ibang pamilya. Si Mommy, laging busy sa trabaho at minsan lang umuuwi.
My phone rang. I answered the call quickly. It was Indira.
"Kylie!"
"Hey,"
"Are you sure you don't want to come over? Mom is asking you," tanong niya sa akin.
"I'm not sure Indira. Tita Lucy invited me to their house eh,"
"Oh, alam ba ng Mommy mo?" I can feel the sadness in her voice.
"I don't know if I will tell her," sagot ko sa kanya.
"Whatever happens, Kylie, I'm one call away," it feels good to have someone on your side at all times.
"Thank you, Indira," she ended the call after dahil tinatawag na daw siya.
Nagdrive thru muna ako bago dumiretso sa condo dahil tinatamad akong magluto. I'm sure my batchmates have their families by their side during this important milestone in our lives samantalang ako, nandito, mag- isa sa condo.
