"Hey. Do you mind if I asked you a question?" Tsuki asked.
"Sure. Anything for my kohai~"
"Why do you love volleyball so much? I mean, isn't it just a sport? The most you could do with it is put it on your applications for colleges, but... why do you care so much?"
To say that Kuroo wasn't a little pissed off was out of the question. He was ready to start a fight with Tsukishima, to say the least as he grabbed Tsuki's collar and pulled him closer, with their faces barely millimeters apart.
"Maybe it's because you don't try hard, but volleyball is more than just a sport. It's something people dedicate their lives to because it's fun. Having fun, meeting new people, getting to feel the win after a long game. That's why volleyball is more than a sport. "
Tsuki's eyes widen at Kuroo's response. He never thought that the cat would get so emotional over a sport. Even though he was very skeptical of his statement, he was going to try a little and see if he could improve. Then maybe he could understand what his upperclassman was saying.
Kuroo let go of Tsukishima's t-shirt and took a step back from him. "Sorry about that. It's just when I see someone like you having your height and intelligence, I just get mad. I mean, you could do cool moves and blocks, so why don't you?"
"It's none of your business."
"Fine by me. Well, since I answered your question, come play with me and the others. It's only fair that way."
Kuroo pushed Tsuki into the gym and just like that, the tall blond was forced to practice against Fukurodani's ace.
Teams were formed once more and this time it was a little different.
Team Owl: Akaashi, Kuroo, Bokuto
Team Crows: Hinata, Tsukishima, Lev
Game start.
Tsukishima wasn't the most thrilled to play on the same team as the short orange, but he couldn't really do anything besides toss a few balls to him. Having no setter meant that the boys had to rotate between who set for them. Tsuki had the best hand coordination skills though.
Hinata ran up to spike the ball only to be stopped by a certain cat of Nekoma. But Hinata managed to deflect the ball and was able to try to spike it to the other side once more. Lev passed the ball to Tsukishima and in turn, Tsukishima gave Lev the set.
Lev swung his right arm as hard as he could before Bokuto and Akaashi could reach the peak of their jump. The ball slammed down on the floor behind them with a 'thump' and just like that, the Crows had earned another point.
"Nice Spike!" Yelled Hinata.
"Thanks!"
Kuroo looked over at his teammates, "We'll get them next time, don't worry. We just gotta let our kohai to think that they have the advantage for a little while."
Hinata was the next person to serve, but he didn't get the ball over the net, and instead, it almost hit Tsuki's head.
"Sorry, Tsukishima!"
"Just don't hit me or I might die," Tsuki said while tossing the ball on the other side of the court.
Kuroo caught it and smiled at the blond before running back to the outside of the court. His serve passed the net and aimed straight for Lev. The tall half-Russian kid wasn't able to drop his knees far enough and the ball curved up into the air.
It was unclear if the ball was going to make it passed the net so Tsuskishima tried to line himself up to the ball, but Kuroo noticed this and also moved up to the front, directly in front of tall blond.
The ball graciously started to fall in between the two boys, which caused them to jump up to try to push the ball into each other's side of the court.
A simple joust occurred between Tsukishima and Kuroo, which ended with Kuroo just having enough power to overthrow Tsuki's poor excuse of a joust. The ball landed next to the blond without a second's notice while Lev and Hinata tried desperately to scoop up the ball moments after it hit the ground.
The score changed one finally time- 27-25
Game Set.
Kuroo smiled at his fellow middle blocker. " Sorry~ I guess that experience beats height, that's all."
"Tsch. Whatever, it's just a game."
"Ohohohohoh~ Is Tsuki getting worked up because he lost?" Questioned Bokuto.
"Shut up... and don't call me Tsuki. It's weird and lame."
Tsukishima had enough at this point as he picked up his water bottle and kneepads before leaving. He was determined to do better now more than he was ever before. He wanted to prove that he could do better and rub it into that stupid Owl's face and make sure that Kuroo couldn't beat him in something simple as a joust. All thanks to a certain rooster-head.
Meanwhile, Kuroo started stretching after he helped put up the volleyball equipment. He was worried about his blond friend and what he could be up to as well as thinking about what he could say to him tomorrow. He reflected on what he said earlier to Tsukishima about why volleyball was so important to him.
He really hoped that that thick-headed blond could understand that maybe if he worked on his blocks, he could also understand why volleyball was so fun. But he knew that he couldn't force Tsukishima to 'have fun' at the same time. So he just had to wait and hope that his friend could want to play with him again.
The two boys were in their own separate worlds, trying to work towards their goals as volleyball players. But meanwhile, a certain setter was lost in his own thoughts.
Kenma was trying to decipher if his best friend was gay or not. Ever since that thought had cross his mind, he wasn't completely sure if his friend was straight. Kuroo had always shown interest in girls ever since they were little. They would constantly have sleep-overs where Kuroo would blabber on and on about the one girl in class who wore her hair in a pony-tail or gave him a spare pencil.
But now thinking back, Kenma realized that Kuroo did act differently around guys as well. Kuroo kind of (without meaning to) always touched guys in one way or another. It could be a simple hug or high-five, but Kuroo had to always touch his friend like that.
Even as kids, they would hold hands as they walked to school together or when it was lighting and Kuroo was staying over, they would hold hands until it stopped storming.
It didn't help when he thought about the time that Kai admitted that he liked Kuroo. He could tell that Kuroo was blushing, but declined nicely after Kai's confession, saying that 'I don't view you that way' and 'we could be friends instead'.
But for the rest of that day, Kuroo was in la-la land which really didn't help when it came to afternoon practice. He was really out of it that day.
With all of these points, Kenma could only come to one conclusion:
Omg, my best friend's gay... and he doesn't even realize it.
