Chapter 2: Condemned Heroes

After a good night rest. I woke up quite early the sun was about to rise, My eye lids felt sticky so i sat at the bed and started to scratch my eyes. My sleep was so good that i don't want to leave my bed ever! But i know the day ahead is going to be rough so without hesitation i stood up and went to the bathroom.

To my surprise the sink actually works! If you are an ordinary guy in the wasteland you need to pump water from a well, But here the pipes actually run water conveniently saving me the time from fetching water. I washed my face and i felt refreshed the water is just so clean.

I then put on my black and stitched together jacket. As i left the beautiful bedroom. The door behind me opened i looked back and i saw a man in Red uniform wearing a fur hat with the hammer and sickle emblem.

"You must be Danielle Ivanov." He said i nodded he then said "You are being summoned by Comrade Vlad." I then replied with "Yes."

As i walk out of the room more guards surround me while i was walking it was pretty scary i then ask the man "Uhhmm...Why am i being called sir?" The man did not reply he was tight lipped i walk by the giant hallways and its adorned by Communist flags then we stopped in the door at the end of the hallway then all the guards went to their specific posts they stuck close to the walls and stood there like statues. I guess i have no choice i open the door and i was greeted soldiers left and right the place looked like a giant court room. Then in the middle of it was that same old man he must be the father of Natalia! Vladislav.

"Danielle!" Natalia called me i looked down and i saw her sitting down with other soldiers I said "What is this place?" She then said "Don't worry you will be fine." Well that was a relief then Vlad said "Danielle Ivanov is that correct?"

I stood straight and shouted "Yes sir!" The old man did not look happy or even glance at me he then said "You are a Renegade soldier correct?"

I then said "Yes sir." He replied "You were sighted in the Battle of the Junkyard correct?" I then nodded. He then said "I cant trust you Ivanov, So in order to gain trust 'We' agreed to send you to the Penal Squad. We believe this is the best course of action." He then said "We think its too risky to place you alongside other branches so you need to serve the Penal battalion you need to redeem your name in Blood." When he said that he gave me the chills up my spine

Natalia stood up furious "Dad!! You cant do this!! He saved me and this is how you repay him?!! Oh my god this is shit!!!" I was confused i don't even know what the penal squad is..Then the old man said "Since he saved my daughter he will be granted one month of service once he makes it through the ordeal he can join any branch he wants that is all." Natalia was fuming mad she hushed and grab my hand and lead me some where outside the court.

"Natalia whats wrong?!" I asked i was confused. I don't know why is she mad i mean she wanted me to join her unit branch 'The Adventurers' She then said "Danielle...I'm sorry." Her head bowed down to me, I asked "Wh-What is the Penal squad?" She then said with a voice of sadness "The penal squad are composed of Criminals,Defectors and Disgrace officers." That statement chilled me from the bone. She raised her index finger and said "Penal squad are sent to...Uhhmmm Missions where ordinary men would....Y-You know." I was biting my lips as if i was about to fall on my knees and cry, I think she meant Suicide missions. I stood up straight and looked at Natalia and i told her "It's just Two weeks right?!" And i held her hand and i said "I will survive the cut believe it!" When i said that she calmed down she seemed to trust me.

Then i felt a tap on my shoulder and i look back i saw a man he did not look like one of the 'Honor guards' He was dirty he had a Chest rig filled with AK47 Magazines his helmet is vandalized with markings like 'Born to kill' or 'Double tap' He was also shit faced.
