Cuori's POV
Hell. That was a good word to describe school on Fridays. All that people talked about was football. Which team was going to win? Which player would score the most points? Who on the other team was hot? Yada yada.
But that wasn't the only thing they talked about. They talked about Spot Conlon. A lot. I wonder how many touchdowns Spot Conlon will score? How many yards will Spot Conlon run? Which lucky girl will Spot Conlon talk to at half time? Spot this. Conlon that. Like, can we change the subject please and thank you? Ace and Clubs are the ultimate duo on the field, let's talk about them instead.
Shiner and I walked through the lunch line listening to some brunettes swoon over Spot.
"He's just so good!" One gushed.
"You think he'll talk to me at halftime?" The other asked timidly.
"Of course!" The other replied. They walked off giggling and I wanted to barf.
Shiner sat next to Albert and I sat across from her next to Race. The two were throwing pieces of chicken nuggets at each other, trying to catch them in their mouths.
"Hey Cuori, what's the answer to number 7 for the science homework?" Crutchie questioned.
"Forty-six." I told him. He nodded turning back to his homework.
"Medda said we were getting a new kid Monday." Jack informed us. "Said she knew the family and they were moving."
"A new kid huh?" Romeo leaned on the table becoming interested.
"Don't get ya hopes up Rome." Specs said, never looking up from his homework.
"I assume you're gonna take it in your own hands to 'welcome' him." I asked Jack. He just rolled his eyes before returning back to his chicken nuggets.
"You excited for the game Cuori?" JoJo asked. I nodded swallowing one of my fries, if you could call them that. The food the cafeteria served was just straight slop.
"I just kind of wished people would shut up about Spot." I hoped.
"But why would ya wanna stop talking about me?" I whirled around to be met with the short brown haired boy.
"Oh! Sorry! No, not like that. I mean it kinda gets annoying after awhile, but it's fine!" I shoved my hands in my pockets, hooking my thumb through my belt loop and rubbing it, a nervous habit of mine.
"Mind if I sit down?" he asked gesturing to the spot next to me.
"Not at all!" Shiner spoke up for me. We exchanged a look of pure disbelief.
"You fellas comin' to the game tanight?" Spot asked
"Yep!" Crutchie exclaimed, popping the "p". Race swung his arm around me.
"And we finally got Cuori here to tag along!" I blushed looking down at my lap.
"You haven't come before?" Spot cocked an eyebrow.
"C's an overachiever." Albert informed him. "Same as my LITTLE sis over here." Shiner pinched the bridge of her nose.
"By 2 and A HALF MINUTES!" I laughed.
"Anyway, she has dance 3 times a week and always is studyin' on Fridays." Race told him.
"Don't gotta tell him my whole business!" I smacked Race playfully.
"Aye Spot! Ya comin'?" Ace shouted for his friend.
"Yeah!" Spot dumped his tray, getting up. "See ya at the game." I gave him an awkward smile as he walked away. Turning back to Shiner.
"That just happened." she said in disbelief.
"That just happened." I breathed out. Lunch was over all to quickly and we had to get ready for our next period.
"You think he'll talk to you at the game?" Shiner asked.
"I don't know, maybe he sat down at the table because he wanted to talk to Jack?" I shrugged opening my locker.
"Oh my gosh you are so difficult!" She complained leaning on the locker next to mine as I swapped out my books.
"I'm not difficult!" I closed my locker. "I'm just stating facts." Shiner threw her hands in the air.
"I give up!" She sighed.
"Just drop it for now. You can tease me all you want at the game tonight." I regretted those words as soon as they came out of my mouth.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
"Mom! I'm home!" I called through the house. I checked the clock on the wall before heading upstairs to change. I pulled on a pair of bleached skinny jeans and tucked a light yellow polo into them. I headed to the bathroom to make sure my brown curly hair was still tame. I walked back into my room staring at my Converse collection. I eventually settled on some graphic comic looking ones with a bright yellow sole. I pondered whether or not to take my homework just in case. Yes, the World High School sadly gave out homework on the weekends. I decided against it, walking downstairs and through the kitchen, my mom handed me a few bucks.
"Have fun tonight Liz. Don't get into trouble. And drink water!" She called after me as I walked out the door.
"I will! Thanks Mom! Love ya!" I hoped into my car flipping the radio to a random station, driving to Albert and Shiner's house.
"Heya C!" Albert called to me, hopping in the passenger side as Shiner climbed in the back. "You excited?"
"You guys have asked that like 10 times already!" I said, pulling away from the curb and starting the drive to the school's football field.
"Well it's your first game since freshman year!" Albert pointed out. Shiner is awfully quiet. I thought. I looked in the rear view mirror at Albert's twin.
"Maddie Dasilva! Put the homework away now!" I ordered. "Ya kiddin' me Shine! It's a Friday night." Albert snatched the folder from her.
"Even Cuori left her stuff at home!" I playfully rolled my eyes.
Shiner huffed, "Its just a football game. Big deal!" Albert gasped dramatically.
"It's the first one of the season! It's gonna be a ball!"
"Made in the shade!" I added. I was actually fairly excited for tonight. The last time I was at a football field was freshman year when I first saw Spot. That game was the most fun I'd had in awhile.
"We should head to the drive-in tomorrow night." Albert suggested. I hummed, thinking over the idea. "We would have to run it by the guys first but I'm free!" Albert smiled before reaching for the radio and flipping through the stations.
"Woah woah woah!" Shiner launched herself from the back seat. "Go back! Go back! That's My Prayer." Albert huffed before flipping back to the previous station. Shiner started screaming the lyrics to the song. Me and Albert exchanged a look before busting out laughing.
We pulled into the parking lot and met up with Jack and the boys. "You were on time!" Jack smiled.
"Who are you and what have you done with Cuori?" Race asked me frantically. I shrugged.
"Guess I was just excited." I said, starting to walk to the bleachers
"Excited to see a certain number 72." I heard Race mumble. I whirled around and bolted at the blonde, jumping on him and knocking him over. I quickly put him in a headlock. "Ok! Ok!" Race begged.
"Say Uncle." I demanded.
"Never!" I tightened my grip around his neck. "Uncle! UNCLE!" I let go off the skinny boy and climbed off the ground brushing myself off casually.
"Daaammnn C." Finch joked. I rolled my eyes.
"Shaddup." I retorted. We took our seats in the bleachers bickering and messing around while the football team warmed up. "Ok, ok," I laughed out. "So, you're telling me. That Race put a hole through the wall trying to slide across the floor. In socks." Race crossed his arms
"It's not that funny!" He pouted. Shiner and I practically died from laughter at the funny story.
"Cuori, don't look now but Ace is kinda...staring at you." Race informed me. I turned in the direction of the field and made eye contact with Ace who quickly looked away and blushed. "I said don't look!" Race whined jumping at me and covering my eyes. I blushed a bit as well.
"You should go talk to him." Shiner smiled.
"No." I replied flatly.
"Oh come on Cuori!" Shiner started.
"Remember what happened last time she made you talk to a guy?" Race added. I sighed, acknowledging that Race, for once, had a point.
"Plleeeease!" the two begged.
"Fine." I decided that I was just going to walk to the concession stand. Get a hotdog or something, if he walked up to me and said something I would talk to him. I made my way over to the concession stand and waited in line, making sure I had enough money for a hotdog and a water.
"Um, Cuori?" I heard a voice behind me. I turned around to be met with a very nervous looking Ace.
"Oh hey!" I stepped out of line to talk to him.
"Um, hi! I was wondering...." he trailed off looking at the group of football players behind him who all nodded reassuringly. I noticed Spot leaning against a nearby fence looking on disapprovingly. Maybe he was annoyed? Upset? I decided to brush it off for now.
"Would you maybe wanna go to the drive-in tomorrow?" He asked shyly.
"I mean, you don't have to if you don't want to I don't wanna make you feel like ya gotta say yes-" he rambled on.
"Sure! Me and the guys were gonna head there tomorrow night anyway, you can tag along." He beamed.
"That would be great! Ya want me to pick you up?" He offered.
"Sure! How about 8?" He nodded before walking off. "I'll see ya then!" he called back to me. As soon as he was out of sight, I bolted back up to the bleachers. Throwing myself at Race and grabbing his face.
"What the hell do I do? Ace just asked me on a date!" I practically screamed.
"Woah. Woah. What? Did you say yes?" Race asked putting his hands on my shoulder. I dramatically turned myself around falling into his lap.
"Yes! But I've never been asked out before. Do I take extra money? What do I say? What do I wear?" I gasped, sitting up and almost knocking Race over. "What do I wear?!"
"Don't stress about it now C. Just relax enjoy the game!" Albert shrugged.
"Relax?!" Shiner shrieked. "She just got asked out by Ace Smith and she's supposed to relax!?" She scolded her older brother.
"Shiner, it's not that big of a deal." Albert protested.
"Not that- My God Albert you've lost ya mind!" Race pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Have not!" Albert bickered back.
I groaned, deciding to just let it go until tomorrow at 7:30.
What do I wear?
