"Deep breaths." Davey reminded me. We pulled up to the front of the school on opening night. Davey and I had carpooled to school.
"I know. It's still so nerve racking." I stressed, parking the car.
"C, you were amazing at rehearsals and you will be just as good tonight. You have the songs and choreography down. You are fine." Davey shook my shoulders lightly. I nodded, grabbing my bag and hopping out of the car.
Not two seconds after I entered, I was tackled in a hug by Jack. "Break a leg tonight, kid." he said.
I laughed. "Same to you, tech isn't exactly the easiest."
"Jack a little help?" Spot called from the tech booth. He was tangled up in some loose cords. Jack howled with laughter and headed over to Spot, just to tease him about being stuck. I walked backstage where Davey had already headed.
"There she is!" Hannah called. Everyone looked up and started applauding. I did dramatic bows and blew kisses. This was the theatre department, what did you expect?
"Get changed Riff, we got an hour before we open the house." Hannah told me. I headed into the dressing room to get changed.
"Hey Shine? The pads out?" I asked from the dressing room. We had a tap part that we added in the opening number that we needed tap shoes for, we had pads backstage to make sure we weren't annoyingly loud.
"Uh, yeah!" she responded.
"Hey C! Ya wanna lead warm ups?" Davey asked from outside the door. I could feel him smirking.
"No. Dave ya know I can't play well." I whined.
"Bullshit!" Jack yelled from behind some curtains.
"Wait, you play piano?" Well now Spot knows. I slipped on my converse that had the metal tap plates glued to them for convenience.
I opened the door to be met with pretty much the whole cast with stupid smiles on their faces. I sighed
"Fiiinnee." Davey beamed as everyone cheered.
"Not that big of a deal!" I said, heading to the piano.
I sat down at the bench as the cast crowded around. We were warming up when we heard voices. Hannah had opened the house early. We scattered from the piano in an instant before busting out laughing backstage.
"Why would she do that?" I laughed out peeking back through the wings. Jack and Spot closed the curtains on the stage and quickly moved the piano.
"That was so not cool." Shiner laughed. She looked stunning in her dress. I had pointed that out many times before this, but she just looked amazing.
"Hey." Spot spoke up from behind me.
"Hi." I responded.
"Just wanted to say break a leg tonight." He smiled. Spot Conlon smiled.
"Um. Thanks! You too." I returned the smile.
"Also wanted ta talk to you." He turned serious.
"About.." I trailed off.
"I don't want you or Shiner at the rumble. It's not safe." He said sternly.
I scoffed. "Too late, buddy. Oscar and Morris have been a major problem in our lives for too long now. And I can't leave my friends like that."
He sighed. "I'm not making you, but I want you to really think it over. I'd rather anyone get hurt but you." With that, he walked to the other side of the stage where he was positioned for the show. A few minutes later, the house lights went down and the opening night show had begun.
~Time skip intermission~
"Woo." I collapsed onto the floor. "That was hard."
Jack leaned down to my level. "Haven't even done the hardest part yet kid." he laughed.
I groaned, rolling over on my back and looking up at the ceiling.
"Hey Cuori!" Spot stuck his head through the wing. "C'mere." I got up off the floor and followed Spot into the hall.
"Where are we going?" I inquired.
"To meet my mom. She asks about you." Spot said as we wove through the crowd.
"She asks about me?" I questioned.
"She's a talker, you'll find out." He smirked.
"Franny!" he bent down to the little girl, engulfing her in a hug.
"Momma's buying popcorn!" She said excitedly.
"Not too much. Don't want you up too late." Spot picked the girl up.
"Hey!" Franny looked at me. "You'se gave me the qwarter!" She gave me a toothy grin.
I nodded. "That was me!" Why am I so awkward?
"Hey mom!" Spot called to a skinny middle aged woman. She had hair just like Franny's and Spot had her eyes for sure. "This is Cuori. Cuori, this is my mom."
She gave me a warm smile and shook my hand. "I'm Mrs. Conlon, but please, call me Mary." She said sweetly.
"Nice time meet you, Mary." I returned her greeting.
"So, you're the Cuori Sean's been talkin' about."
Spot blushed a bit. "Mooomm." He complained.
My heart was beating out of my chest and I was internally squealing, but I kept a cool and composed demeanor.
"Oh so you talk about me." He glared at me as I laughed. The conversation with Spot's mom was enjoyable, but we eventually had to go backstage. I was not excited for act two.
Spot hugged me right before my cue. "You'll be amazing." I was caught off guard but melted into the hug."Tha- thanks."
A/N so rumble is next but that won't be out for awhile for ✨dramatic effect✨ anyway bye. :)
