A kick startled Mary as she rested in the chair of her office of the palace. She set her pen down on the desk and rested her hands on her ever growing stomach. Another kick caused her to laugh. A smile brimmed her face when she smoothed her dress slightly."Jamie, I need to work." She tells her unborn son, "There's things I need to get done before my birthday tomorrow." Mary says with a smile but her son simply kicks her stomach again where her hand is rested. The expectant mother never thought of her child possibly being born around her birthday, but it was seeming to work out that way. Steve and T'Challa were planning something small, only consisting of the family and extended family that could make it to Wakanda in time for her birthday.
Everyone but Becca. Bucky and Mary's daughter was back home in Queens, New York progressing in her schoolwork and enjoying the life of a semi normal teenage life. But with the events of the Accords and everything that followed, Becca's life was no longer a secret. The world knew now and it terrified the mother some days, most days, that her daughter could be in danger. But Mary's oldest son was the one responsible for Becca's safety now. Tony Stark swore on his life that he'd protect his sister, and Mary knew he meant it.
Things were still tense between the mother and son. Mary had chosen to omit the fact of her pregnancy when talking briefly with Tony months prior. She felt guilty, incredibly guilty, but she knew Tony had enough on his plate than to add his mother being pregnant and him never being able to see her during that time. She didn't want to hurt him more by keeping him away from Jamie's life. She wanted the brothers to meet, but she didn't know when that would be possible in her mind. Tony was still bitter about many things that were uncovered in Siberia, and it left things between Steve, Mary and Tony in a not so good place.
A soft knock on the door to Mary's office pulled her away from her thoughts when she looks up to see her husband. Her beloved Sarge, standing in the doorway of his wife's Advisory office. He wasn't dressed in his normal robe and shoulder cover, he was dressed in dark jeans, dark t-shirt and his shoulder cover T'Challa had gifted him as a recovery present some months ago.
"How's my beautiful luna doin' this fine evening?" Bucky teases his wife. The couple had taken up the joke that they were alpha and luna of the Wolves of Wakanda. They would only use the joke in private, not wanting to cause uncomfort to anyone else.
"Your son wont stop kicking me, but other than that i'm doing just fine, alpha." Mary teases back, watching her husband shake his head in amusement as he steps towards her. He bends down and presses his lips to hers briefly before resting his only hand onto her stomach.
"Bud, you're hurting your mother." Bucky says to Mary's stomach, "You're strong, which is good. We want you strong, we want you active. You let us know by kicking that you're alive." He tells his son, he can remember the feeling of sorrow and agony when Mary had told him Winnie had passed before she was even born. The husband and wife were both over the moon Jamie was so active this late in her pregnancy, but oftentimes Jamie's kicks resulted in bruising Mary's stomach. It pained Bucky to see his wife in pain, but she would brush it off and not worry about it most of the time. She wanted Jamie alive more than anything in the world right now, she didn't care what happened to her.
