The thing about dreams is that they can get weird like this one time when Myra was riding a camel standing upright , impossible she knows and yet never in her wildest dreams would she have thought that she would wake up to her house burnt to the ground and her family being not so mature.
Everything happened so quickly that she didn't even have the time to register anything.
One moment she was sleeping and the very next moment she was being woken up by Dee with Amy shouting in the background " THE HOUSE IS ON FIRE". With that she knew that the little normalcy her life possessed had been snatched away from her.
Ever wondered how absurd life can be. Cause now she is standing in front of a pile of ashes, in her pajamas and messy-tangled hair. The ashes that were the only remaining thing of her house . They say houses are built by people and converted into homes by family . Amy and Dee were the only family she had known and she is happy with that . Even though things tend to get a little rough at times she loves them as much as they hate each other.
"I told her to keep her habits in check." Dee said.
"Look at the old hag blabbering again." goes Amy.
"If only you weren't drunk half the time and didn't go around spreading your legs everywhere maybe we would have a home right now." Dee said.
"While I am honoured by your obsession with my fucking legs I'd appreciate it if you kept them out of every conversation." Amy said.
"But Amy how could you burn down an entire house? I mean even if a normal person gets drunk, burning a house is just so-" Myra stopped mid sentence, she was too shocked and too busy wrapping her head around the whole burnt house thing. She just stared at the house which was now engulfed in flames, she sighed and looked at her granny.
"Well, you could say it is one of my talents." Amy said smirking looking at her nails. Dee rolled her eyes at this statement
At that moment she realized why rolling your eyes was a thing.
Myra's paternal grandmother- 'Amy was wild whereas her maternal grandmother whom she called 'grams' was conservative. Amy cursed while Dee prayed. Amy drank while Dee sewed. Polar opposites, so the mutual hatred was sort of justified.
Seriously this lady, even in the worst situation she has to- ugh Myra thought rubbing her temples.
"Can we please figure out where we will be going next." Myra said rubbing her temples, by this time everyone had come out of their houses and gathered around their now burnt down house.
"Oh thank lord! There is still someone left with a bit of common sense besides me." Dee said.
"Oh puh-lease y-" Myra didn't let Amy finish the sentence because this was getting very irritating.
"WOULD YOU GUYS SHUT UP PLEASE?"
"Let's just become gangsters!" Amy said.
Give it to Amy for thinking the most weird thoughts in the most serious situations Myra thought.
"Keep your ridiculous ideas with yourself. This is not the time for this." Dee sighed clearly looking very tired of all this.
"You both are so fucking weird." Myra said.
"Don't curse!" Dee said with a stern look on her face.
"Girls of our house don't curse like that. What if someone hears you, what will they say 'That the Menons didn't teach their children how to speak properly'. Anyway, this cursing, blabbering, sputtering all belongs to boys. Girls should be elegant, gracefull-"
Myra rolled her eyes to the other dimension. How many time has she heard this speech, she had lost count.
Even when their house got burned, Dee still cared more about manners and etiquettes.
"- because you tell me, who likes girls doing all that weird stuff-" Dee is still going on at it.
"Grams we have a burnt house and nowhere to go, my manners should be the last thing we should be concerned about." Myra said to Dee, who sighed and nodded
"I have an idea." Amy said cutting her and effectively saving Myra from another Dee's boring speech.
Dee scowled at that.
"If you say anything like, let's become gangsters, I swear I'll kill you." Dee said.
"Dee let's just hear what Amy's got." Myra said.
"We can go to Mumbai." Amy said it was followed by a pin drop silence.
"What?!" Both Myra and Dee said at the same time.
"Are you serious?" Myra said. They can't just to a whole different city by the drop of hat.
"You know, we can't go there anymore." Dee said in a hush voice
"And who will take care of the café?! We have a business here, what are we going to do about it. Who will take care of it!" Dee yelled on top of her lungs.
"Yes we can, I think we have to get past that. Our home is there, how many years has it been." Amy said looking down, she had somewhat of an emotional expression on her face. Even Dee's face turned solemn.
Myra was clearly very confused as to what they were talking about and why was Dee looking so tensed and concerned. Her granny who's face didn't show 1% remorse on the burning of their house is showing emotion about a house? Myra was perplexed at this sudden show of emotion.
But before she could ask them Dee and Amy started fighting again.
"I ain't keeping a single foot in that house." Dee said.
"Yeah you know what don't, it's better that way." Amy said.
Oh God! Why can't they just stop fighting Myra thought.
"Dee I think we should move to Mumbai, right now we have no where to go and Mumbai's the only option we have right now." Myra said trying to convince Dee. She was somewhat excited to go to Mumbai and wow they even had a house in Mumbai, Cherry on top. Myra thought ecstatically.
"Okay, I think we have no other option but to move to Mumbai. GOD! why Mumbai of all places." Dee said half heartedly.
"YAAAY!!!" both Myra and Amy shouted, relieved that Dee had agreed.
"Let's just spend the night at a hotel, I have just called a cab." Dee said looking out for any cab coming out their way.
