I wiped a tear from her cheek as it all crashed in on me.
Her grief was different than mine.
Her husband killed himself.
I was still mourning over Annie.
She was right. I was sad.
But... i could never. Not with Ella here. Annie would never forgive me. I couldnt do that to either of them.
She tried to back away from me but i picked her up instead. I backed up to the bed, setting her on my lap straddling me.
I wrapped her up in my arms, she pushed her face into my chest and just cried.
Me: I'm sorry...
I leaned my cheek against her head and held her tighter when I felt her sob.
She talked with her face still smooshed against me. I smiled a little because it was cute, but that quickly faded.
Charley: I'm sssssorry. I jjjjust dont know how to to to do this.
I chuckled a little.
Me: you think I know what the hell im doing?
She shrugged
Me: My dick doesn't work anymore.
WHY EMORY. WHY.
She looked up at me confused and I blushed.
I shrugged.
She giggled
Charley: Really?
I glared a little for her giggles, but really i was relieved.
I nodded.
Me: Yep.
Charley: seemed to be working fine outside a minute ago.
I squinted my eyes at her.
She didn't have to call me out like that.
She laughed
I wiped the last few tears off of her sweet freckled cheeks.
She chewed on her lip, i used my thumb to pull it free.
Charley: I like you Emory... I'm just scared.
Me: I like you too.
Charley: Youre not scared?
I smiled
Me: of course i am. You pack a mean ass punch.
She giggled.
Her finger mindlessly ran up and down my light happy trail and every muscle in my body quivered.
I fucking quivered.
I dont think I've ever used that word in my life.
She looked up at me.
Charley: Maybe we can work together? Be there for each other?
I smiled and moved the hair off of her shoulder
It was just an excuse to touch her, i wont lie about it.
Something was happening. I was feeling things i hadnt felt in a long time. She was right...it was scary.
Me: I'd honestly really like that.
She slowly wrapped her arms around my neck and scooted her body closer to mine. God she was warm.
