I hated that my poor baby was sick at home without me. But Emory assured me it was just a little bug.
And Mr. Picatso had much more than a bug.
He was my absolute favorite visitor. He had been coming to use for years.
Mr. Picatso was first owned by a very sweet elderly woman named Patricia. After Patricia died, her granddaughter adopted him. She was just as sweet as Pat. I was over the moon when she decided to keep us as his primary vet.
Sadly, Mr. Picatso was getting a bit old now, and had grown a tumor that needed excised immediately.
I took my time during the procedure, but i was in a hurry to get home.
Ella was pretty excited to see me after school. I decided then, when Danny was feeling better, I'd like to have a girls day.
Emory would be so bored without the three of us.
We got to my house
Me: El, why dont you start on your school stuff and I'll go check on Danny? And tell your dad we're home.
She smiled that adorable little girl smile and hopped to it.
Ella could for sure be a handful, but she was always such a sweetie.
I figured id find the two of them in Dannys bedroom. Knowing Emory he put her straight to bed after they got home.
He was such a great dad.
He would do anything for either of these girls, he always had time for them, even in the middle of some big work project. If one of them asked for his attention, they got it. All of it.
He was a giant kid himself really. I dont know how he always has so much energy!
I loved that he treated Danny just like he treated Ella.
I thought it would weird me out seeing someone father Danny other than her biological father....but it didn't... i was glad she had such an amazing father figure.
I opened the door a crack and had to cover my mouth to muffle the literal "awww" that came from my lips.
Emory was laid out on Dannys bed. One arm was hanging off of the side, along with one of his feet. Danny was pretty much laying on top of him with her little arms wrapped around him.
They were both snoozing away.
I cant describe to you the emotions i was feeling.
This man came in to our lives when we were at our lowest and somehow....he'd brightened everything around us.
I got to hear Danny giggle on a regular basis now.
Some days i would lay in bed and have to rub my cheeks because they were so sore from smiling all day.
And he did it so effortlessly.
I tip toed over towards the bed and placed a light hand on dannys forehead.
She didn't feel warm
Her eyes slowly opened up and shined a little up at me, she smiled.
I whispered
Me: Hi sweetie. How are you feeling?
She rubbed her eyes
Danny: better
Me: Are you hungry?
She nodded
Me: okay, be careful, don't wake Emory up.
She very gently rolled off of him and we made our way to the kitchen.
The girls colored on the living room floor while i started some soup.
I've appreciated Emory and Ella both. But, after this? I needed to show him how much I loved him.
But how?
I was in the middle of contemplating between something dirty and something sweet when i felt warm arms wrap around me.
I smiled when he hugged me tighter and kissed my neck
His voice was rough, like it usually is in the mornings.
That was my favorite.
Emory: why didn't you wake me?
Because you looked too adorable to disturb?
Me: Didnt want to wake the bear during his slumber
Emory: I'm sorry. I shouldve stayed awake and updated you and made sure she was okay. She was just so....cozy.
He sounded like he was beating himself up. I didnt like when he did that.
I turned around in his arms and wrapped mine around his neck
Me: You were perfect I'm sure.
He smiled a little
Me: Thank you. I love you.
His smile widened to show his perfect dimples and I swooned.
He always smiled like that when we shared our "i love yous" and it always made my heart somersault.
Emory: I love you too.
He kissed my forehead before i turned around to stir the soup
Emory: since i had a nap. You know what that means?
Me: hmm?
He pushed his lips to my ear, one hand pulled my ass to his front, the other laid flat on my belly.
Emory: I can stay up all night.
Goosebumps covered my entire body.
If the girls weren't in the other room i would've bent over and begged him for it
But that's not my life.
And that's okay.
Because the life i was living right now.... it was damn near perfect.
