I was nervous about my appointment with Dr. Winters. Especially because she knew Emory. And i still hadn't completely come down from everything that happened right before i left. I was still pissed. And embarrassed about the ugly bruise on my knuckles.
But her warm smile put me at ease the second she opened her door. I noticed her red lipstick matched her bright red glasses.
Girlfriend had style.
Dr. Winters: Hi! Charley! Come on in.
I smiled at her and stepped inside her house.
Dr. W: Alright we're going to go to my office right through here, go ahead and have a seat.
I sat down on her couch trying not to bite my lip off.
Biting my lip, the inside of my cheek, and my nails were always a nervous habit of mine, ever since i was little.
Emory thought it was cute.
He did like the one time i grew my nails out though. I felt bad for the lines i left on his chest, but i swear it turned him on more. Maybe i should get a manicure?
Dr. W: Okay. So where would you like to start?
Charley: Uhm. I ... i dont know. I've never... I don't know how this works.
She smiled at me again and set her notepad down.
Dr. w: well we can spend this first appointment getting a feel for each other, that way you feel more comfortable with me, and that way we know we're a good fit. Or we can just dive right in and go from there. You sounded a little shaken on the phone so i want to go whichever route you're comfortable with, whatever you think will help you.
I thought it over.
I had plenty to talk about with her.
She helped Emory. So I'm sure she'd be a good fit for me. He talks so highly of her.
I knew what i wanted to talk about. The biggest thing on my mind....
Charley: There is one thing...
Emory
I yanked the girls to the middle of the living room, they giggled
Me: Okay ladies. This is one of the last few days it's supposed to be nice out before it gets cold. What do we want to do?
They both thought so hard i thought the smoke alarm would go off.
Ella: ice cream.
Me: We just had ice cream the other day.
Danny: Frozen yogurt.
Touché.
Me: Done. What else.
Ella: Lets build a house! Like you daddy!
Two seconds of thought and I was packing the girls into the Jeep.
We stopped for FroYo on the way to Lowe's after the girls promised me they wouldn't get it all over the seats.
They did pretty well.
As a parent, you kind of just write off your backseats ever being the same.
We got our supplies and headed back.
I showed them how to tape the boxes so they stayed open while i put them together.
A few hours later, I'm crawling through cardboard tunnels my fat ass barely fits through. Along with Happy, Ella, and Danny.
