Toni Topaz POV

"Toni! Open that door!"

The insistent beats made me open my eyes with difficulty.

Yoshi barked as if the house was on fire.

"Toni, I'm going to break this door!"

I didn't need anything else for me to know who was the kindest being on Earth who was knocking on the door.

Veronica had a bad habit of not calling and suddenly showing up.

I don't think she's aware that they've already invented a cute little thing called a cell phone.

I struggled up from the bed and picked Yoshi up, soothing the dog.

I opened the door and Veronica came in like a hurricane, carrying her cello on her back.

"But what is this?"

"We agreed to rehearse today, remember?!"

"Veronica, are .."

I looked for the clock in the room and realized the time.

"Fuck, nine o'clock in the morning! Today is Saturday!"

"And?!"

What the fuck, I wanted to sleep late. I had a bad night's sleep.

I threw myself on the sofa anyway and Yoshi jumped off my lap, walking to the outside area of the house.

I watched Veronica remove the cello from the cover and start fixing it, I didn't even remember that I had scheduled any rehearsal with her.

My night was awful, as was the early afternoon. I spent the night composing and my body couldn't stand up.

"Can you tell me why you had a bad night's sleep? I know I didn't have sex."

"What if it was?!"

"I doubt it, you don't have a head lately to masturbate."

"Veronica!"

"Am I lying?!"

She wrinkled her nose and I buried my face in the pillow, letting out all the air in my lungs.

"Come on, get up quickly and pick up the violin."

"I swear, you know I love to play, but I just woke up! Can't you just wait for me to take a shower and eat something?"

"Okay, but only because I didn't drink coffee either."

Veronica helped me up from the couch and patted my ass so I could get on with the bath while she prepared something for us.

My head has been a mess since I received the unexpected and harmless visit from Cheryl the day before.

Most impressive of all, she was not even sure why she went there.

Even if that woman decided to be nice to me, I knew how to see the kind of trick to win my trust.

I'm not going to sell that place to Cheryl under any circumstances.

[...]

After taking a cold shower, I took some music on the desk, the violin and went to the living room, where Veronica played something random on the cello.

I sat down next to her and gave a friendly smile as I tuned the violin.

Veronica seemed to study me a little, as if looking for something that I had not yet discussed with her.
