Cheryl Blossom POV
"Are you sure? I think it would be a good idea for you to go with me."
I settled in my office chair and started playing with my fingers.
"You know ... my chances of finding Theo and cheating Mark would be greater."
"I know, Cheryl, but it's Tyler's birthday, I think he'll kill me if he knows I've been planning a trip around that date."
"Talk to him, he has a birthday every year."
"But we never know when the last one will be, do we?"
Marjorie smiled without much emotion and stared at her feet.
"I'm really sorry, Cheryl, I wish I could help. Besides, Toni didn't seem very happy to know that I might be."
"What does she have to do with it?"
"Well, she who bears the name of Château Topaz, not to mention that the latest events do not favor me one bit."
I felt my sister staring at the landscape right behind me and her gaze fixed on mine.
"I don't want to disturb you."
"I do not understand."
"For God's sake, Cheryl, are you really saying that? It is so clear to see that you are having a kind of 'loving relationship.'"
She made quotation marks with her fingers and smiled showing her teeth.
I looked at her eyes hidden by the glasses and sighed.
"Look, you don't have to tell me anything, okay? Only it's kind of obvious. I really don't want to disturb your romantic trip with a hint of action with the search for Theo."
"Shut up."
I laughed and threw a little ball of paper in Marjorie's face.
"I really wanted you to go, I think we're getting along for the first time in years. This is ... kind of frustrating."
I threw my head back on the chair and closed my eyes to take a deep breath.
The approach Marjorie and I were experiencing was unprecedented, I was not ready to break contact so fast.
To tell you the truth, I was afraid to travel and when I returned, everything would be hell as before.
Only it was necessary to trust and believe that nothing would change, right? It didn't hurt to give time a try for the first time.
"Don't worry, Cher."
I heard her voice at the tip of my ear and offered her a warm smile, but without opening my eyes.
"When you get back, I'll still be here."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
I felt Marjorie giving a kiss on my forehead and I opened my eyes to face her, I felt extremely good having my sister so close without being afraid of being stabbed or something.
Our fights used to be so violent that my father always had to hang out with one of us, in this case, Marjorie.
As Heather used to say; "Four eyes is dangerous, Cheryl, be careful", and she smiled innocently, as if that were the most absurd thing in the world ... but it wasn't.
"I still have so much to do and I'm going to travel tomorrow."
"Tell me about it, today is a meeting day with shareholders and we will take stock of the month's profits. I hate doing that, I waste hours of my day just looking at numbers and more numbers."
