Crisp air nipped at her skin as leaves grazed the pavement, dancing in the wind. The tranquil breeze running through the once green scenery indicated that fall was approaching, the season of the air element.
Life was normal for a girl like Baek Seorin in the Republic. She had parents, a little sister, an abundance of friends from all backgrounds, and even attended high school, unfortunately. Things couldn't be any more average for a girl like her.
Besides the fact that she could shift water with her body.
Well, it's not that special.
Seorin was one of many water shifters in the Neo Elemental Republic, a place where all elements could live alongside each other in harmony. Within these borders, there was no discrimination towards the other elements, people could shift in peace.
Her dad was one of the four leaders, each one deemed to be a master of their element. In short, her family was exquisitely skilled and it's in their bloodline to become water shifting experts.
"Seorin!" a boy caught up to her, beaming with a cheeky grin. His cheekbones stood tall on his face and his eyes had a natural glimmer, displaying the deepest emerald color.
"What's up, boulder head?" she chuckled, catching the sight her childhood best friend, Mark Lee.
Her and Mark had been together since diapers, their fathers each being one of the four leaders and close colleagues. He was an earth shifter, hence the nickname boulder head. It wasn't really cause of his shifting abilities though, she just thought his head was massive.
"Senior year, huh?" he walked beside her, strolling down the streets with no set destination.
"Couldn't dread it anymore than I am right now, I feel like I have senioritis already." she rolled her eyes in annoyance. "I wish we could've graduated together, you somehow made university friends already." a frown crept onto her face.
Mark was only a year older than her, but she envied his position. Since he had graduated, his leader training was about to begin this autumn, something any future inheritor would anticipate. Just like every other teenager on this planet, she couldn't wait to get out of high school.
"What can I say? I got connections." he smugly smirked in attempt to act cool, making Seorin fake gag. "Please don't tell me you're gonna join that NCT fraternity Jaehyun's apart of." she sighed.
"Too bad, I'm already in." he let out a mischievous laugh. Seorin sighed deeply, shifting the water from a fountain up to her finger tips, then splashing it onto his face. He broke out into a coughing fit as the liquid went up his system, causing her to burst out in laughter.
"I know you're experienced with rocks and all, but now you're literally gonna be stoned all the time. Just make sure not to get tangled up with an air shifter, please." Seorin wiped some of the water off of his face with her sleeve.
