When most people hear the name Park Jisung, they automatically think of the soccer player, or the ironically cold-hearted fire leader's son. On February 5, 2002, a prodigy was born in the heart of Seoul in the Neo Elemental Republic, passed down the mastery of fire shifting from his father, Park Jiwoon. Although people may have a perception of him being the next stone cold inheritor, this may be debunked as a misconception. Contrary to popular belief, Park Jisung is just like every other kid in the world- completely average with just not-so-average skills.
In attempt to uphold his bourgeoisie status, he lives in absolute elegance, keeping a formal persona everywhere he goes. Jisung is not one to let others walk all over him, unafraid of speaking his mind no matter what the situation might be. Many recognize him for his advanced skill set, able to shift fire in ways even a master could dream of. He even is able to shift it into different hues, radiating any beautiful shade you could imagine. There's no doubt to the public eye that he has everything going for him, a wicked prodigy.
Although, only narcissists could say all that about themselves. Truly on the inside, Jisung views himself no different from the person beside him, never using his abilities to uplift himself higher. He sees himself as average, but capable, humbling himself without even realizing it. Not once in his life had he used his powers for evil, careful with the dangers fire could hold. If anything, Jisung views himself as less than what he actually is, maybe even envious of those who live out a more considerably normal life.
Just like every other kid in high school, he is fearful of the future, no matter how much he hates to admit it. With labels being thrown at him left and right in the media, they don't know how much stress it could actually put onto a juvenile, a child who's just trying to make it like everyone else in this world. This happens so often to the point where he even faces an identity crisis himself, questioning who he is really meant to be and intensifying his leader complex. But deep down, he knows he longs for the childhood he never had, a normal one.
Contrasting with his hard persona, he is afraid many things. From something as normal as the dark, to obscure as old people, you'd be surprised at how odd his fears actually are. One that stood out was rollercoasters, a childhood favorite of many. It is a strange concept, locking yourself in a machine to launch yourself in every which direction, but the exhilaration is what makes it worthwhile. When he got on, he was shaking with every nerve in his body, desperate to get it over with, but with the gift of comfort and reassurance, he was ultimately able to enjoy the experience, finding himself smiling in a situation he once dreaded.
The fear may stem from internal struggles with trust and liberation in his life. Growing up in the media, it's hard to find people that will truly be by your side, having to keep a small circle of close friends. Having to just trust percentages and physics on an insane contraption is truly a weird concept, but he indirectly faced them on the rollercoaster. Also while growing up in a popular household, a filter is automatically placed on you by the time you pop out of the womb. Especially in his lifetime, he had to watch what he said or did, just for the sake of his family's image. Not being used to thrill and risks caused him to only fear the big opportunities in front of him, hindering him from considering it to be a fun experience. Ultimately, he had overcome these obstacles in life, tackling years of trauma and childhood issues head on through a new experience.
Overall, Park Jisung isn't the person everyone perceives him to be. He isn't a stone cold son of Park Jiwoon, nor is he just a prodigy with his life set out for him. He's witty, strategic, and kind, even if he has trouble showing it. From his early childhood, he's had many labels pushed onto him, only resulting in him having trouble finding his own self. But deep down, he's just like everyone else; just as caring, just as loving, and just as average in the best way possible. Park Jisung is not just a prodigy, or a politician's son, he's a beautifully troubled soul who's finding the light, just like the rest of us.chapter thirty seven — the essay ; pt 1. seorin
