Chapter Twenty One

- Winter's POV -

There are lots of things you don't know about merpeople, we are all different in our own ways. But some things are the same.

Number One; Every merperson can only fall in love once and if the other denies the love then they will always be alone.

Number Two: At the age of 18 merteens gain a power, but their guardian can choose. Summer is 19 and on her 18th birthday Father was given a choice of which power to give her, but he choose none. Which means Summer is weaker than every other meradult. This is also why shes probably rebellious.

Number Three: We don't feel a lot of emotions, but when we do it hits hard. When a merperson is extremely upset or hurt emotionally a scar will appear on their body somewhere. This shows that something has emotionally scarred them.

And if you didn't realise, that is what happened to me.

I lay at the bottom of the ocean in the pitch black, anything could be down here. But i couldn't move from the pain in my left arm, it really hurt.

I stayed silent just in case there was a mermaid eating monster right beside me, that wouldn't end good. I'm sure father would laugh if he knew I had got my first scar, he would probably be happy that I'm sad. It just felt like a strike in the heart when I saw Heidi on that floating object, I trusted her.

Was she trying to lure me into a trap? I'll never know. My right arm was still able to move, I should probably try to get out of here now..

I lifted myself from the cold sand and looked up into the darkness, I may as well try to swim. As soon as my tail began to move it was like a striking pain. I yelped as I fell back onto the sand, how the sea salt am I going to get back?

- Heidi's POV -

After five hours of sitting on a boat we finally got back to land. I was so ready to lock myself in my bedroom and cry all day. The sadness was surely coming back now.

"Did you like your first day of mermaid hunting Heidi?" One of dads friends said, I nodded quickly and looked away.

"You can go on home, I'm going to go out for a drink" Dad said before pushing me away from his friends. I sighed and walked back home with my head hanging low.

I should've never agreed to going mermaid hunting, I have lost my only friend. I get bullied in school and everyone hates my existence. Except for a mythical creature. I miss her so much.

I got home, ran up to my bedroom and locked the door. I'm never leaving this bedroom again. Mum wasn't even home and it was already dark out, so I decided to lie on my bedroom floor in the dark and cry. What a great day this was turning out to be.

Through my blurred teary eyes I saw my mermaid drawings lying under my bed. I grabbed them and took them out from under my bed. I must admit I am really good at drawing, I smiled at the picture then glanced back up at the ceiling, I need to find Winter.
