- Winter's POV -
It was getting dark and late, I was still alone in the emptiness of the ocean.
Everybody was at home in their caves while I was sat on a rock not far out of the reef. My father hates me.
I shouldn't be ashamed or sad, I did what I wasn't suppose to do and I didn't get captured, I made a friend!
Humans aren't so bad.
The water gets extremely cold at night, I was shivering which made little bubbles rise to the surface. Not a merperson in sight.

My eyes opened quickly as I felt like I was falling, I was. I must've rolled off the rock in my sleep because I was plummeting to the bottom of the ocean, another place we aren't aloud to go.
I caught myself quickly before falling any further and began swimming up again, while yawning loudly. I fell asleep out in the open, how dangerous.
As soon as I got to the top I saw all the usual faces swimming around carrying on with their business. Until there was a huge trumpet sound.
Everyone froze in their tracks and gasped, what was it? Suddenly a huge carriage being pulled by two sea horses flew over the reef and rested on a rock not far from me. All the merpeople surrounded it while cheering. It was the Sea King!
I swam into the crowds and gazed up at him, his crown was sparkling in the sun rays as they travelled through the water.
"Attention good merfolk!" He shouted in his deep voice, it echoed around the reef.
"As you know we lost a mermaid a few days ago to the humans. We need to look after our loved ones at this time.. Because the humans are out to capture more of us"
Everyone gasped and some merwomen began to cry, my heart was pounding.
"Please keep everyone safe, warn everyone you see even strangers. Thank you" Before anyone could speak or ask a question his carriage was gone.
My sister is missing but aren't I technically missing to? I haven't returned home in two days and father hasn't warned anyone or told anybody to come find me?
Yep, I'm the middle child.
Suddenly in the corner of my eye I spotted father and Autumn in the crowds, I should just go back. What's the point in being a homeless mermaid?
"D-dad?" I said quietly behind him. Autumn turned around and gasped.
"Winter! You're alive!" She shouted while hugging me tightly, I laughed.
"Yeah, I am"
Father glanced at me then he looked away.. Then he looked back in shock.
"Winter!?" He said loudly, I nodded.
Without saying anything else, he grabbed me and pulled me back to the cave.
"Daddy wait! Be happy! She's safe and she's alive!" Autumn shouted while swimming after us. This is going to be fun.
