Fears

Emma

"I mean, I didn't plan on seeing him ever again. It just brings up unresolved issues and here I am camped out in the bathroom not only hiding from my date because I'm missing someone else, but I'm hiding from the fact that I know he brought someone else here."

Olivia jumped off of the counter she was sitting on, and put her hands on my shoulders. "Emma, just breathe. I know it's hard, but you just have to take it ten seconds at a time. Can you do that? For me?"

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before nodding.

"Good." Olivia said.

The worst part about all of this is that she's the girl he told me not to worry about while we were together.

At least I had the courtesy to bring someone that Ethan never had to worry about.

We were at a social media event. The event wasn't really anything specific, but everyone seemed to be having a good time.

Olivia and I got back to the table, where our dates were sitting.

I just brought a guy from work that I was friends with. His name was Tucker.

"Hey. You good?" He asked as I sat down in the chair next to his.

"Yeah. Just feeling a little off I guess."

"We can get out of here if you'd like?"

I glanced over at the dance floor, where Ethan and Kristina seemed to be having the night of their life.

"I have a better idea." I said.

Ethan

The only reason I was even on the dance floor was to stop myself from death glaring Emma's date. And to distract myself from Emma in general. I didn't even know she'd be here, so I'm glad I have Kristina with me.

I was doing just fine until I saw Emma being her date onto the dance floor. I could see her from over Kristina's shoulder, and I hated that she was having a good time with whoever her date was.

Finally, I couldn't take it anymore.

"I'm going to the bathroom." I told Kristina. I didn't even let her answer before I walked away.

I slipped past Emma and told her to meet me in five minutes.

Sure enough, she walked into the bathroom a few minutes later.

"What do you want?"

"Well. Hello to you too."

"Ethan—"

"Do you wanna ditch this place?"

She hesitated for a moment before she nodded her head. "Thank God you asked."

Emma laughed as she dug her spoon into her pint of ice cream. Back when we were together, we'd always go to the store and each buy a pint for ourselves. I always got half baked by Ben and Jerry's, and Emma always got chocolate chip cookie dough.

"Damn, I didn't realize how much I missed this." She said.

"Do you think they realized we ditched yet?"

"I guess we'll find out soon."And then, Olivia called her. Emma put her on speaker. "Hey, Liv."

"Where are you?"

"I got ice cream with Ethan."

"Hey, Olivia." I said.

"Really, Emma?" Olivia said. "What am I supposed to tel Tucker?"

"Tell him I went home because I wasn't feeling well. I'll take care of the rest later."

"Fine. You're paying next time we get pizza."

Emma laughed. "That's fine, Liv."

As soon as Emma hung up the phone, my own phone buzzed.

Kristina: where are you???

Ethan: something came up. Grayson can take you home. I guess I'll call you

Kristina: no need for that, asshole

Thank God.

You see, Kristina was a girl from work, and she wouldn't leave me alone. Finally I thought if I took her out once maybe she'd finally stop annoying me.

Needless to say, I was never planning on calling her anyway.

Emma and I spent the whole night together. We ate ice cream and talked nearly the whole night until the ice cream was long gone. Then we weren't doing much talking.

Just like old times, Emma's lips molded perfectly with mine.

What I thought was my biggest fear (seeing Emma with a different guy at an event), ended up being the start of a new beginning for Emma and I.

We dated for two years after that, and quite frankly I'm going to propose next week.

Emma

I said yes. It was a beautiful proposal, and I said yes.

I've never been happier.

The sick to my stomach feeling when I saw Ethan at that event with another woman went away the second we left that party together.

I know it sounds like a weird way of getting back together, but a lot of things in life don't make much sense, do they?

It was by far the best two years of my life, and I couldn't wait to be his wife.

It was two weeks before the wedding when Ethan told me he had a big surprise for me.
We got in the car, and he made me put on a blindfold so that I didn't know where we were going.

It took an hour to get there, and it was worth it because once my blindfold was off, I was standing in the living room of our brand new house.

"This is ours?"

"It's ours."

I turned around to face Ethan, giving him a hug. "I love it."

It was perfect. I came to find out that Ethan's dad and brother had spent the past few months building it for us, and now it was finished. I never even knew until this moment.

Ethan kissed the top of my head. "Can you believe we have a home now, babe?"

I shook my head as he leaned down to peck my lips. "We're gonna raise our kids in this house."

Ethan smiled. "I know. Don't you love it?"

"It's amazing."

"Kiss me again?" He flirted

"Yes sir." I said, reaching onto my tiptoes to kiss him. "I love you."

"I love you too, sweetie."

I never thought that one night sneaking away from our dates to get ice cream would lead to Ethan and I getting married. I mean, that night I never thought Ethan and I would even talk to each other, let alone fall in love all over again.

But we did, and I've never been happier.
