A/N:

This is gonna be an excerpt from by book "Real". I decided to take the parts I had posted down, because I felt like with the way the book plays out, it needs to be written and complete before I release it. (I've never written science fiction-y stuff before, so I need to figure every detail out and make it make sense).

With that being said, this is gonna be like a sneak peak, and it'll be up once I have it all written (maybe I'll release the entire book all at once. I'll let you guys decide that.)

"What if we tried to meet up? You know, so we can finally figure out the truth." Ethan asked.

"That sounds nice, but if you're not real, then I don't want to know."

"But what if I am? Imagine all the things that could happen, Em. We could finally be happy. No one would think we're crazy when we talk about each other anymore. In a sense, we'd have so much more freedom."

"I know. And I would love that. It's just—maybe if I find out you're not real, I'll feel like I lost you or something. You're so important to me."

"You wouldn't lose me if I'm not real."

"I'd lose the hope that you're real."

"I'm here in your dreams, aren't I? That makes me just as real as anyone else. I'm still here in some form."

"Yeah. I just don't know if I wanna know."

"You gotta rip the bandaid off, Em."

"Where would we meet anyway?"

"I have a baseball tournament in Ohio on July 12th."

"Is that the closest you'll get to Milwaukee?"

"Yeah. It's basically halfway from Baltimore. I just really want to meet you. For real. I want to know what it feels like to hug you, and what you sound like in real life. I want to know you for the tangible you."

"I want that too. But I'm afraid if I find out you're not real, my heart will break."

"We have to find out sooner or later, right?"

"Right. If you were only in my dreams, why wouldn't I just dream that you could meet me here? I mean, it makes sense that if you're real, you'd want me to meet you somewhere I usually wouldn't go."

"Exactly. The weekend of July 12th, I'll be in Springfield, Ohio. It's a baseball tournament at Silver Moon Park. Just let me know if you'll be there."

I don't know how my subconscious remembered this, but I wrote it down as soon as I woke up the next day.

I looked it up, and sure enough there was a baseball tournament in Springfield, Ohio on July 12th. At Silver Moon Park.

"What the fuck?" I whispered to myself. "This is too real. I shouldn't be scared right now."

The thing is, I could finally find out if Ethan truly was real, or if he really was just an imaginary character of my mind. It just seemed so real that he grew up at the same rate as me, and I feel like I've known him forever through these dreams.
