As she forced herself to speak without stuttering, Xueer clenched her fists tightly, "I'm Kong Xueer, the campus-"

"Popular one? Ice queen? Yea I know...what I meant by introduction was getting to know each other more personally." Jiaqi interrupted as she rested her head on her hands, her curious eyes never leaving the red headed.

Xueer gazed down and muttered, not knowing how she should feel, complimented or offended, "I was going to say smartest..."

The latter raised a brow and tapped her pen against her chin, "How are you so sure that you're the smartest? Don't be over confident." With a glare so intense, Xueer scoffed and grabbed her books, "If you're here to give me your unnecessary comments then I'll be leaving then."

Grabbing her hand firmly, Jiaqi sighed, "I was just kidding. You need to loosen up and stop being so sensitive."

She then continued casually while Xueer's vision was only fixated on her wrists, "Besides, I saw the list of best students and you got first in the whole school so I know you're not lying."

Whatever Jiaqi was saying was a blur for her as she could only see the fair slender fingers around her wrists. Why am I like this, just pull your hand away from her Xueer, it's not that hard, those thoughts kept repeating in her mind as she shifted her gaze to Jiaqi's face. Finally gathering all her courage, she yanked her hand away and sat back down, "Let's just quickly finish up with the stupid introduction. Yuxin is probably waiting for me already."

Trying so hard not to roll her eyes right then, Jiaqi forced a question out, "A date?" Xueer bitterly replied while a flash of hatred appeared and disappeared in a second, "No, my parents would never allow that unless it's related to studies. It's a study date I arranged since she was doing badly."

Standing up with the screeching of the metal chairs, Jiaqi packed her books in silence while Xueer watched with confusion. Upon noticing her puzzled expression, Jiaqi faked a subtle smile while zipping up her bag, "You wouldn't want to be late right? Just go, we'll continue next time."

Not even waiting for Xueer's response, she turned around and left the library, leaving Xueer all alone. As her eyes traced the faded silhouette of the taller girl, Xueer whispered to herself and got up, "Why was I acting and feeling so unusual just now? Did her weirdness get to me?" A heavy sigh escaped her lips before making her way to find Yuxin, not noticing a pair of fox like eyes following her like a predator hunting for its prey.

When Jiaqi reached her home, she immediately went to the kitchen and pulled out some bags of blood. She couldn't stand the long hours in school without her source of energy. The nasty rat like taste lingered in her mouth as she emptied the bags, causing her to gag with much disgust. Those blood bags had to be at least a month old which meant so were the rest.

Jiaqi buried her face into her palms as a war of thoughts fought in her mind. She had to hunt tonight or she was going to starve. She could buy blood bags in the hidden underground vampire kingdom that was faraway from where she lived however, they would take forever to be delivered here and she wasn't patient at all.

A sudden gust of icy cold wind invaded her small apartment as she burned the bags away, making Jiaqi sigh with annoyance for the unnecessary grand entrance and a tinge of happiness for knowing who it was. "Seriously? Next time just use the door. It's there for a reason-"

A soft voice then mumbled in her ear as she felt a breath of coldness against her bare shoulders, "It's been such a long time since we met and this is the first thing you greet me with? Wow, what a great friend are."

Jiaqi giggled as she turned around only to be met with her one and only best friend. Smiling, Jiaqi threw her arms around her tiny waist, burying her face into her dark green hair, "I missed you. Where have you been for these few weeks?"

The latter patted her back and flashed a boxy grin, "Training." Jiaqi frowned and gently grabbed her hand, examining the bruises all over her arms that she covered with foundation.

"And you left without telling me and got yourself beaten up like this?" She sighed and pulled Jiaqi back into a hug, not caring about what she just said, "You know that I have to. Sooner or later, they're going to come for us...we have no choice."

Remaining silent, Jiaqi controlled her emotions until she gathered herself and questioned, "How's my parents doing?" She broke the hug and stared right into her empty eyes, hesitant on whether she should say it, "They are fine. As usual, working on our defense and administrative stuff. "

Jiaqi hummed and breathed in, "I guess I'll need to start my training then." Her friend sighed and gripped onto the hem of Jiaqi's shirt, "No...I'm here for a reason, to protect you. Jiaqi, you're the last descendant of the r-" She paused and froze, instantly wishing she could take back her words, "I'm sorry..."

"Since I need to get new blood, let's just go hunting tonight together like the good old times and you're forgiven." Jiaqi smiled and pulled her down onto the sofa, ignoring her words. "Fine...if that's what you want."

Later at night, the two friends headed out and went deep into the forest where the road fades into an undergrowth. The sound of crickets and toads filled up the area as they closed their eyes, letting their senses be one with nature. "Whoever kills the most wins. Only an hour. Loser does whatever winner wants." Jiaqi cheekily announced before sprinting like the speed of light once she felt the movement of two deer a kilometre away, leaving the latter cursing and heading the other way.

30 minutes into the night, the other was leading with 2 animals, increasing Jiaqi's competitiveness even more. In the last few minutes however, Jiaqi ambushed her and snatched 3 kills, winning by 1 more animal.

"Well then...looks like I've won, Yuyan."

After helping to extract the blood out of animals and pour it into the bags, Yuyan grinned and playfully pinned Jiaqi down onto the ground, "You better watch out next time Xu Jiaqi, I won't be going that easily on you."

Jiaqi was about to reply when she suddenly heard mumbles that was probably 3 kilometres away from where they were at. Both Jiaqi and Yuyan froze, their eyes widened as they immediately switched to telepathy mode.

'Yuyan, you hear that too right?'

'Yea, sounds like humans to me.'

The two first discarded the animal bodies carefully before heading to the source of sound, eavesdropping from the shadows.

"Do you know what to do?" The man who was wearing a suit handed a box over to an oddly familiar looking back view. Jiaqi could've sworn she seen that hairstyle and hair colour before. Even her blood scent smelt so familiar...

"Yes, I know."

Suddenly, she felt chills down her spine, it can't be her right? The woman then opened the box, revealing tubes of blue glowing fluid stored inside. That was when Yuyan stepped back carefully, each step taken with caution, horror painted all over her face, 'Jiaqi, we have to go now...NOW.'

Looking back at the seemingly terrified girl, Jiaqi glanced at the two humans before following her. She realised that Yuyan knew something terrifying...and that was enough to convince Jiaqi those two were part of the elite vampire hunters.
