He then immediately slapped his face dead center, sighing in annoyance.
Madi slammed her face into the pillow sat in front of her "Fuckkkk-"
"I actually didn't look at the rest, but I just did something stupid. I completely forgot I was in your body and just casually typed how I type. Way to fucking go me!"
Madi laughed, resting her head on her palm. "I love you but why? Also, I hope your mom doesn't come in anytime soon, even though dinners almost done apparently, because we need to figure this out."
And right on cue, there was a knock at the door. Joe did a second slap to the face, but this time softly knowing it was Madi's face.
"Way to go Madi!"
"Well there goes my luck." She said, laughing. "Coming!"
She put up a finger and climbed down the loft only to fall to the ground, which clearly concerned Joe. And confused him, since she just left the phone there.
"Hey, baby, wait! What are you gonna do with my phone?"
"Clearly I'm gonna do what I usually do, keep the call going, but in this case it's to make sure I'm not acting like myself at the table. I don't want your family thinking something changed all of the sudden."
Madi had a point. It is what they usually do, but this was important. He figured if he talked, it would help them both stick to act in like the body they were in.
She got up and grabbed the phone, walking out of his room.
"Honestly, I'm probably gonna get told to not have your phone at the table, because family. You're lucky that you get out of that while you're in my body, because I eat in my room." She laughed, getting to the dinner table. Joe made sure to mute his end of the call so it wasn't obvious, but still appeared on the screen occasionally.
"Nice, I get some privacy when her dinner time comes...it feels lonely though..."
That's right, Madi doesn't have siblings, but Joe does. She'd be stuck with his little brother while in his body, but did she mind? Not really. This also meant that Joe got to be around her cat, which they joke about being their child..Hah.
Before Joe could even touch his sketchbook, he heard a soft meow. He looked around only to see Madi's cat, Cupcake. She sat down and purred, nuzzling at his hand.
"...I take that back. Hi Cupcake! It's nice to be able to pet you for once."
Meanwhile, Madi was kinda just, feeling out of place at the table, but she was trying to act like Joe as much as possible..again. She decided to look over to him for some sort of assistance, that wasn't any help because he was more focused on Cupcake now. Lucky for her there wasn't much talking, besides his mom, who really just wanted to know how Madi was doing.
"So Joe...is Madi doing well?"
"I uh- I mean, She is. She is doing well. I'm actually on with her if you'd like to say hello"
Fuck, she almost, ALMOST screwed up. Nice going Madi, but now you're going to throw Joe on the spot? Nice.
"Oh, I saw you talking to her earlier! You two were talking an awful lot about something. What was going on?" She bit a piece of her steak, somehow ignoring the fact that her "son" had his phone at the table.
"Something weird just happened to our call, it's no big deal, we got it worked out." Madi nodded, insisting that it was all going to be alright. She took a bite out of her steak too, trying to eat in a Joe-ish manner.
"Must be the internet, it's been acting a bit funny lately."
"Yeah." She shrugged. "At least it's better now."
"Was that all it was about? It sounded like you were screaming, which is why I came back there."
And that's where Joe's habits came in. Madi sighed to herself; she hated to admit it, but Chronos was right. The way their emotions worked was going to affect them both, and they both had to cover up each other for it.
"I think that was Madi, she had uh...got a bit too excited over the glitch we had. It was pretty funny."
She didn't tell a complete lie, her and Joe were entertained in the moment. The only thing that didn't make it so fun was Chronos, he had done fucked everything up.
His mom took another bite of her food, nodding. Meanwhile, Madi started to eat faster. It was only so long before his mom would notice the hair, she's surprised she hasn't even pointed it out yet. But knowing her luck, she was bound to ask.
"How are those grades looking, Joe? I've let you off the hook this time around, so I hope they're getting better-"
"Yep, they're fantastic! They're improving."
"And what about that room? Have you-"
"I've cleaned here and there, but I'll get to cleaning the rest later on."
His mom watched her child eat, the plate nearly empty. Madi ate the last bit of food before getting up from the table and heading to the kitchen.
"Hungry, weren't you?"
"Yeah, thanks for dinner, I'll be in my room now!"
In one quick moment, Madi snatched up Joe's phone and shuffled her way to his room before closing the door. She didn't know what she just did, but she was relieved to be back.
