Olivia's POV
"The Dread Doctors by T.R. McCammon." Allison read off the book that Malia had gotten from Tracy's room. "Those were the guys who attacked us."

I simply nod as I stared at the dozens of pages we were copying for everyone else so they could have their own version. The one in the middle stood out to me in particular. The Surgeon.
He was the one who murdered Tracy. The Surgeon, the Geneticist, and the Pathologist. They were the ones who were making all the Chimeras and murdering for failure.
What if they were the ones who took Donovan? Maybe Donovan wasn't dead and maybe Stiles was innocent. Wait a minute, Stiles had to be innocent. It was self-defense!
"Hey," I jump and see Allison had a look of concern. "you alright?"
I clear my throat and nod. "Yeah just...thinking about Phoebe." I lie but she raised a brow. "Anyway, I talked to Stiles earlier but he says he can't find anything on the author. He thinks it's a pen name."
She turns the book to the back. "In a small New England town, teenagers are taken in the night and buried alive. Days later they emerge transformed, wreaking havoc and spreading terror, commanded by an ancient order of parascientists known only as...the Dread Doctors." She read off before shaking her head with disbelief. "Any of that sound familiar?"
"Malia says that this was only volume one and that she couldn't find any evidence that they made another book." I say and nervously scratched the back of my neck. "In my opinion, I'm pretty sure we're volume two. Maybe if they had made another book, it would talk about how they steal the bodies."
She shook her head. "I don't think the Dread Doctors are the ones stealing the bodies. Like you said with Tracy, they just left her there and disappeared. Then the same thing happened with Lucas." She explained. "If they wanted to take the bodies, they would've done it right then and there."
"So someone else has to be taking them." I conclude and she nods. "What's weird to me is that they keep declaring the Chimeras as failures. What would even be considered a success?"
"With our luck," She sighed. "probably bad."
As if on cue, a ding goes off from the printer, indicating that the copies were complete.
That definitely was a sign.
I start to collect the sheets of paper until Allison grabbed my arm. "Wait a sec...look at this." She handed me the book and pointed to the acknowledgments page.
"For providing scientific perspective and invaluable insight, this book is dedicated to Dr. Gabriel Valack." I read off with my brows furrowed. "Who's that?"
