This was an idea that had been playing around in my head for a couple of weeks. I finally managed to write this behemoth of a oneshot after like a week of writer's block, being interrupted unexpectedly, and me generally just losing interest for a little while. I hope you guys enjoy, and please tell me what you think!!

Can't count the years on one hand that we've been together
They (supposedly, Kageyama still isn't entirely sure, but Yamaguchi insists that it's the truth) got together in their third year of high school. Third year feels so long ago, even though Kageyama is only in his second year of college. Third year was the year they were the senpai, with wide eyed kouhai looking to them for advice on nearly anything. Third year was the year he and Hinata decided to actually "put a label" (as so happily put by Tsukishima) on the relationship they had with each other. Third year was the best.
I need the other one to hold you
Make you feel, make you feel better
After school the day they decided they were offically dating, Hinata started crying. Kageyama would deny later that he most definitely did not panic, hovering around the smaller boy like an overprotective mother.
It took him more than a couple of minutes to convince Hinata to tell him what was wrong, but he admits that maybe that was because every time he opened his mouth to say something it came out as a yell. Hinata eventually started laughing at him, cupping his face with rough, calloused hands as he forced his head down, gently pushing their foreheads together.
"I'm just really happy that I have you, Bakayama." He whispers to him through his tears. "So happy..."
Kageyama pauses, his heart skips a beat as he blushes a bright red, then he smacks Hinata in the back of the head.
It's not a walk in the park to love each other
But when our fingers interlock, can't deny, can't deny, you're worth it
There are times were he questions why Hinata decided to date him. He could've picked someone like Kozume, Yamaguchi, maybe even Yachi. They were definitely nicer than he was, especially to Hinata. He was awkward and internally nervous about the thought of it all. He actually had a boyfriend. He actually had Hinata Shouyo as his boyfriend.
However, there are times when Hinata makes it better.
He casually leans into Kageyama's side a lot, and Kageyama is pretty sure the only reason he hasn't smacked him yet is because it makes his heart swell. When they're alone, Hinata gives him little pecks on the cheek, nose, and forehead, probably anywhere that isn't his mouth. Kageyama eventually gets annoyed with it and kisses him hard on the mouth one day. This time, Hinata blushes and he smacks Kageyama in the shoulder. Kageyama chases him all the way to his house.
'Cause after all this time
I'm still into you
I should be over all the butterflies but I'm into you
I'm into you
Kageyama hasn't seen his face in such a long time. It's seemed like years since he's seen that soft smile and fiery red hair. He knows that he should be over it by now, the way his stomach flutters and his heartbeat quickens when he looks through his phone, stocked full with pictures of Hinata. But he quietly admitted to himself a long time ago. He wasn't over Hinata, and he was never going to be over Hinata.
And baby even on our worst nights
I'm into you
I'm into you
He knows that the fight was stupid, mostly because he couldn't even really remember what they were fighting about. He remembers Hinata's face, his usual bright smile replaced with a snarl, his eyes narrow and angry, his hands coming up to fist in his shirt like they did when they were both still first years. He remembers lashing out with his own anger, his hands closing tightly around Hinata's smaller wrists as he forcefully pulled his hands away. They pushed and shoved at each other, clawing and yelling, not caring about their surroundings or that they were hurting each other.
Hinata leaves their apartment that night, a angry red scratch under his eye, and with a limp in his step. Kageyama lets him, too blinded by anger to care that his (ex) boyfriend was hurt because of him, and that he's also leaving because of him.
He cries later that night, as he nurses his own wounds, carefully poking at the bruised skin along his chest and collarbone. He knows that this wasn't supposed to happen. He and Hinata were supposed to stay together, like boyfriends do.
He cries himself to sleep that night, the bed cold and empty without Hinata by his side.
Let 'em wonder how we got this far,
'Cause I don't really need to wonder at allYeah, after all this time
I'm still into you
He blinks again at the barista, unsure if he should trust his eyes. Hinata let his hair grow out more, pulled back into a tiny ponytail under his work hat. His features are still as soft looking as ever, with his big brown eyes, sunkissed skin, and more well built body. He looks better than he did when he left Kageyama, which makes his heart ache. Hinata just stares right back at him, his eyes wide and mouth agape in disbelief.
"H-Hey, dumbass." Kageyama says. "B-Been a long time, yeah?"
