So I started this wanting to do an unrequited love and then it gained a mind of its own and became this. I'm actually very satisfied with it though so please enjoy it and tell me what you guys think!

For Kinoshita, kissing Narita makes him feel like he's floating.
Being on the bench, cheering for his starter teammates from the sidelines, as much as he hates to admit it, is exhausting sometimes. He watches them play, eyes burning with intensity and chests heaving from exertion, and it makes him feel as if he's nothing but an tiny, insignificant speck in the face of a marvelous galaxy.
There's times when he remembers that he's on level ground with his other teammates, on the same court, facing the same opponent, if from different positions and perspectives. The moments he finds Narita and Ennoshita standing at his side, their voices mixing in with the loud uproar the ones on the bench are causing, he realizes. Even from his position on the bench, watching on the sidelines and cheering for his team, they were all here together, taking on the same battle.
He's not really sure when he falls in love with Narita.
It happens so slowly and so subtly, he only comes to realize it during one afternoon practice, after Ennoshita scolds Nishinoya and Tanaka for doing something stupid, and Narita smiles. Kinoshita can't help but grin himself and marvel at how soft Narita's face looks with that smile. It makes his heart hum with a different kind of beat.
Even from their place standing on the side, Kinoshita thinks of the times that Narita has made his mark on the court, being so amazing and admirable even when he's dropped unexpectedly in the middle of it all. Even from his current place, and through the stress and frustration that comes with it, Kinoshita has learned how stunning it was to grow while having someone like that right by your side.
Sometimes Kinoshita wondered if Narita feels similar to him, between all the calming gestures and happy smiles, simply because he wasn't sure whether allowing his heart to continue to do as it pleased or baring it completely even with the threat of death looming in the background was the easier option.
All of these thoughts suddenly flood his mind as Narita kisses him, his back pressed against the hard wall of the gym and Narita's hand braced against the wall above Kinoshita's head.
Their first kiss was not anything like the way popular manga and animes portrayed first kisses. It wasn't graceful and dignified, nor was it steamy and messy. It was just exactly what it was, two teenaged boys kissing each other because they felt like it.
His hands desperately clutch and fist into Narita's shirt, and he thinks how loudly his heart is beating against his ribs. He wonders for a brief, silly second if Narita could actually hear it, with how loud it sounded to his own ears. He gets anxious at the thought of it. And yet, he can't help himself from pulling the taller boy closer, wanting to feel the other against him entirely, if only to know what it felt like.
Narita hums in appreciation around his mouth, and the hand he had braced against the wall is suddenly on his head, fingers gently ruffling through his hair.
The sensation is enough for Kinoshita to sigh through his nose as his hands come up to rest on Narita's hips, and he leans his head back and closes his eyes, allowing the light, airy feeling of floating to consume him completely.
It seems like forever before Narita finally pulls back, and Kinoshita is almost disappointed at the loss, ready to whine and complain about it, then he opens his eyes again to look up at Narita and his thoughts change completely.
Narita's entire face is flushed a light red, noticeable only because of their close proximity. His eyes are darkened with an emotion akin to desire, but not quite a look of absolute lust. His breath is warm against Kinoshita's chin as he pants, breathless from the kiss. Even out of breath, he manages a smile that makes Kinoshita's already fast moving heart skip a beat or two before it decides to start pounding even harder against his chest.
"You have that look in your eyes again, Kinoshita." He says.
"Look?" Kinoshita repeats after a few moments of silence used to catch his breath, unsure of what exactly Narita was talking about. "What look?"
Narita chuckles softly, his chest vibrating gently against Kinoshita's own. "You look so mesmerized." He explains, his smile widening as he does so. "Like you're coming back down from the most amazing high ever."
Kinoshita's face reddens a bit at Narita's words, and he averts his eyes for a brief second before giving in to the temptation and looking back up at Narita.
"It's not exactly intentional," he mumbles assertively. "Have a crush on a guy you think you can't have, and then get kissed by that same guy and see how you look afterward."
Narita laughs again, except this time it's an actual laugh, clear and light and once again sending Kinoshita's heart into overdrive.
"Oh, I'm sure I look no better than you do, Kinoshita." He says. Then he's leaning in close, centimeters from Kinoshita's lips once more. Kinoshita finds himself ready to think up any excuse imaginable to kiss him one more time, then Narita's lips ghost against his own, words whispered onto the soft, warm skin.
"In fact, I say I likely look worse."
