"Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned."
"Exactly which Father are you apologizing to?" Issei asked as he came up to stand beside Hanamaki, his arms crossed over his chest and one eyebrow raised. "The Lord himself, your father, or me?" Hanamaki hadn't even bothered kneeling, just standing still as a statue in front of the altar. His hands were clasped loosely against his chest, and his head was bowed slightly, his eyes closed. After a few moments, his mouth twisted into his signature grin, and he opened one eye to look up at Issei.
"Most likely you," he replied. "Since we both know that you're the only one who actually cares that I'm a dead man walking. And mostly because I'm an atheist."
Issei grinned back down at him. "Well, you sure are praying like a dead man. You think the big man upstairs will be pissy that we made out in the confessional booth?"
Hanamaki shrugged. "I don't know, atheist, remember?"
Issei nodded and waved a hand in dismissal. "Right, right. Does that mean you're done praying to your nonexistent god yet? We have to leave soon, because I don't know about you, but Netflix and Chill is calling my name tonight."
Hanamaki froze, his smile down turning into a slight frown. "Ah, about that, Issei..." he trailed off, looking away embarrassingly. "I... have to work tonight..."
Issei blinked. "Oh." He said simply, carefully threading the fingers of one hand through Hanamaki's own in hopes of making him feel better. He knew enough about his boyfriend's line of work that he understood why he would feel embarrassed, but as far as he was concerned, Hanamaki had nothing to be ashamed of. "Well, that's fine. You want me to wait at home?"
Hanamaki squeezed his hand gently. "Can... can you actually... come with me tonight?" He said softly. "You don't have to be a paying customer or anything, you can just hang out at the bar, have a few drinks. I just... want you to keep an eye and ear out for me. Please."
Issei tugged Hanamaki closer, bringing his other hand up to carefully run his fingers through his lover's hair. He leaned down and pressed a tender kiss to his forehead. "Of course I will, baby. You don't even have to ask me. I'll keep an eye on ya, don't worry."
Hanamaki hummed contentedly, burying his face into Issei's chest as they just stood there for a few more moments, basking happily in each other's warm embrace.
"I love you, Issei.."
Issei smiled even wider at his lover's soft, muffled declaration, continuing to gently run his hand through his boyfriend's hair, content with hearing the happy, near-purring noises that Hanamaki was producing under his ministrations. "I love you too, Takahiro." He mumbled. "So, so much. Much more than I can put into words."
Hanamaki laughed, the movement vibrating against Issei's chest, before he pulled away slightly to look up at him, his face flushed a light pink. "You are such a fucking sappy dork, Issei! Such a dork!"
Issei chuckled, lightly swinging their still linked hands. "Yeah, but I'm your dork." He leaned his head down to nuzzle Hanamaki's nose, making the other scrunch up his face and lean away with a giggle. "And I'm afraid that the Matsukawa family has a "no return" policy, so you're stuck with me."
He stared lovingly into Hanamaki's eyes. "You ok with that, baby?"
Hanamaki laughed again, bringing up his free hand to cup Issei's cheek, meeting his gaze with his own soft look. "Yeah." He said. "Yeah, I think I'm ok with that."
