"Hey, yo, babe!"
"Suga, turn back this way, I wanna take a good photo of you!"
Ennoshita's eye twitched behind his sunglasses, and he fought the nearly overwhelming urge to punch Sugawara in the nose. He pushed his sunglasses up onto his forehead, turning away from where he was trying to take a photo of a jogger going by with his dog and towards the older man, his face set in a frown.
"Sugawara. We did not come here just for you to get a hook up."
Sugawara ignored Ennoshita, still leaning as far over the tailgate of the truck as he dared, holding his hand out as he tried to get the attention of the young woman walking along the sidewalk. "I can show you a real good time, baby! So why don't you come on over here and-"
"Sugawara!" Ennoshita felt his face growing hot as Sugawara continued to call out to the woman flirtatiously, both from anger and from embarrassment. He gripped his camera so hard he was afraid it might snap in two. "Don't be so vulgar! Not in front of Hinata!"
"Then don't listen!" Sugawara exclaimed, the excitement draining from his face as he realized the truck was going away from the sidewalk, veering slightly onto the other side of the road. He turned his head towards the cab of the truck, squinting his eyes in annoyance at Tanaka through the open back window. "Tanaka! The girl is over there, why the fuck is the truck going away from her?"
Tanaka was hunched over slightly in the driver's seat, his hands gripping the steering wheel so hard Ennoshita could see his knuckles turning white. In the passenger seat, Kageyama sighed loudly.
"He says he doesn't feel so good."
"Well neither do I!" Sugawara cried in anguish as he leaned even farther off the tailgate, his hand futilely reaching out towards the woman as she turned off the sidewalk and began her decent towards the beach. "I just lost my chance at scoring a date!"
Ennoshita scowled, opting to let go of his camera before he actually did damage it. "How about you lean a bit farther off that tailgate and then you can score a date with the asphalt."
Sugawara glared at Ennoshita from behind his sunglasses as he straightened himself, flopping back into the bed of the truck. He pointed a finger at Ennoshita. "Oh shut up, cam boy! You don't understand how important that was to me! That could have been my soulmate!"
Ennoshita's face exploded with heat and he slammed his hands down on the bed of the truck in exasperation. His sunglasses comically fell from his forehead at the movement, but he ignored it in favor of pinning Sugawara with his own scathing glare. "What did you just call me?" He shrieked, mortified. "And how important- How important? Are you serious right now, you fucking lunatic?"
Sugawara pouted and sniffled, crossing his arms and turning away from Ennoshita like a toddler having a tantrum. "You're the one screaming your head off..."
"Ennoshita, please calm down." A scrawny chest suddenly pressed up against his back, thin arms encasing him in their warm embrace. A strand of orange hair tickled his neck, and Ennoshita found his anger dissipating. "It's alright, Suga is just playing. You know how he is."
"I most certainly am not playing!" Sugawara huffed, still not turning from where he was sat near the tailgate. "He refuses to be sympathetic to my suffering! That was my only chance to get laid! Do you know how hard it is to try and get with someone when you're a literal gang leader?"
A twinge of annoyance fluttered in Ennoshita's chest despite the comforting warmth Hinata was providing him. "I thought she was your soulmate?"
"Irrelevant!"
"Tanaka, I swear to god, if you throw up on me, I'm going to put a bullet between your eyes."
Ennoshita sighed at Kageyama's loud declaration, gently pushing Hinata away and shuffling closer towards the window of the cab before Kageyama actually went through with his statement. "What's wrong? Is he sick?"
Kageyama turned his head, glancing at Ennoshita with one narrowed blue eye, his mouth set in a tight lipped frown. "I don't fucking know." He replied. "It's not like he's telling me anything. He's just driving, but look at him! He's pale as a damn sheet!"
Even though Ennoshita couldn't see his face, he could easily tell that Tanaka's skin lacked its usual peachy tone. The neck and back of his button down were covered with a large sweat stain, and Ennoshita was sure it wasn't just from the heat. Tanaka's hands were still gripping the steering wheel like it was a lifeline, his fingers twitching a bit.
Ennoshita frowned as well, worry stabbing at his chest. He glanced up at the sky for a few moments, taking note of the sun's position in the bright blue sky. "Maybe..." he said as he returned his gaze downward again. "We should take a rest stop. We will still have some daylight left if we rest for only an hour or two."
Kageyama scowled at Ennoshita's proposal, although Ennoshita couldn't blame him. They were all taking this "road trip" for a reason, and it sure as hell wasn't because they were high school graduates looking to "find themselves" and do stupid shit.
"Look, I don't like the prospect of stopping as much as you do." He was sure to choose his words carefully, but kept his tone firm and unwavering. Gang leader or not, he wasn't afraid of Kageyama. "But if Tanaka is sick then he needs to rest. Hinata has you, me, and Sugawara, if push comes to shove, then I know that he'll be safe."
Kageyama's lip twitched and Ennoshita knew that his resolve was cracked. The younger boy dropped his head with a heavy sigh, turning away from Ennoshita to stare back out the open passenger side window. "Fine." He muttered quietly. "Only for a couple of hours so we can see what's wrong with the old man."
Ennoshita smiled softly at the young teen. "Thank you, Kageyama-"
He cut himself off with a high pitched yelp as the truck suddenly lurched to stop, and then proceeded to slam his forehead straight onto the cab. He cried out at the pain that surged through his entire head, bringing his hands up to press firmly against his forehead as he fell over onto his back, kicking his legs out in agony. Judging from Kageyama's loud cursing in the cab and Hinata's soft whines of pain behind him, they hadn't gotten away unscathed either.
"Old man!" Kageyama roared angrily, spitting curse words that would make even a sailor blush. "Sick or not, I'm going to fucking kill you!"
"Oh lord..." Sugawara's voice muttered somewhere above him as Ennoshita heard the sound of one of the doors to the truck being slammed closed. "Uh, Ennoshita. Tanaka just collapsed and is currently hurling in some bushes. Should we be concerned?"
