So this was a thing that came to my mind around a year ago. But I never was satisfied with it until now. NOTE: there is a mention of a child being hit and overall hinted at abuse. If these topics happen to make you uncomfortable or upset in any way, I ask that you please find something else to read. Hope you nerds like it and please tell me what you think!

The woman hovers over Kindaichi, her hand still raised from where she struck him across the face. Her smile is wide and unsettling, and her eyes burn with an intense fire that keeps Shouyo from breaking formation and helping his friend.
Kindaichi makes no move to get up, one hand resting against his cheek as he keeps his gaze on the floor. Even from this distance, Shouyo can see him trembling. He was absolutely terrified of this woman, as they all were.
"I will not tolerate disobedience in this unit, Yuutarou." She said sweetly. Kindaichi flinched at the sound of his given name. "You would do well to remember your place, child. I am the Mother, and you are my precious children. Yes?"
The other children in the formation stiffened as her attention was directed on them. Nobody moved or spoke for a heartbeat or two, then someone near the front of the first row bowed sharply, his upper and lower half forming a near perfect ninety degree angle, and cried out. "Yes, ma'am!"
The children, relieved that someone had decided to take charge in the situation, quickly followed suit, bowing their heads and shouting "yes ma'am" at the top of their lungs.
Shouyo risked taking his eyes off the floor to glance up at the woman. She looked pleased with the new development, her previous strained smile now relaxed into a smug smirk.
She was enjoying this.
"Now," she crooned, bending down slightly to run her hands through Kindaichi's hair. He freezes at her touch, but makes no move to stop her, just closing his eyes and waiting for her to get bored with him. "We will continue where we left off. Partner fighting. Pair off with a person in the unit and practice using your abilities either on each other or together on a common target. Do you understand, my precious children?"
"Yes, ma'am!"
She nodded, rubbing Kindaichi's head one last time. "Now go."
She then stood up, her gaze raking across the crowd of children before she turned her back on them, strutting away confidently as her soldiers made sure to flank her, guns pointed threateningly at the children.
The children scattered like ants at her dismissal, hurrying around to find a partner or a training dummy to practice on before she decided to change her mind. Shouyo himself scrambled towards Kindaichi, not caring if the woman decided to punish him for it. Kindaichi flinched at Shouyo's arrival, and Shouyo's heart broke at the sight of his friend looking so frightened.
"It's okay, Kindaichi," he said slowly, quietly, as not to startle him again. He held out his hand. "Come on, let's go meet up with Kunimi. You guys can train together."
It took a few moments before Kindaichi finally took it, his breath shaky and his hands even more so. Shouyo ignored it, however. Kindaichi would calm down soon.
