We ran through the rain, rushing the unconscious boy into the Animal Clinic. Deaton cleared the table, letting Scott gently place Derek on it. The veterinarian stared at him in shock, 'Wow.'
'Wow? Wow as in, "I've seen this before and I know exactly what to do", kind of wow? 'Cause that's the kind of wow we were hoping for,' Stiles huffed, staring sceptically down at the boy.
'I think you might be overestimating my abilities.'
Lydia reached forwards, holding Derek's hand, 'He's cold. Really cold.'
I frowned, 'Do you think this is permanent?'
Deaton shrugged, shining a light into the boy's eyes, 'I'm not sure a medical diagnosis is even adequate, this is well beyond my experience.'
'So what do we do with him?'
'Until he wakes up? Probably not much. It might be best to leave him with me, he'll be safe here.'
Stiles nodded, 'You mean from Kate?'
He turned to us, 'If she's alive and she is what you say she is, she won't be able to walk past that gate.'
'Why would she want to do this to him?' Lydia asked.
'Knowing Kate, it's probably for a reason that won't be any good for anyone but her.'
'And bad for everyone else,' Stiles continued.
Deaton sighed, 'You guys should probably go home, he doesn't look to be in any danger. So maybe the rest of you should get some sleep? It is a school night and you all need to start taking care of your own lives again.'
I shook my head, 'Someone should stay with you.'
Lydia shrugged, 'I'll stay. My grades are fine, despite missing a few classes.'
I scoffed, 'I'm so not okay with this, he's my uncle!'
'Ari, you haven't slept in ages. Go.'
'Text us if anything happens,' Scott sternly instructed.
'Still not okay with it.'
Stiles took my hand, 'Come on, Ari. You look exhausted!'
I paused for a moment before nodding and pressing a gentle kiss against Derek's forehead. 'Promise me you'll text if he changes?' I asked.
'I promise,' Lydia sighed, watching as we left.
------
Stiles and I headed upstairs to his room, changing into our pyjamas and slumping onto the bed. I had been staying with him for a while, ever since his dad found out that I was living on my own. He'd been quite protective of me after everything that happened, checking in on me and helping Stiles to calm me when I had nightmares.
'You okay? You've been kinda tense lately,' Stiles frowned, searching my eyes for an answer.
'I'm fine, just tired.' He slowly nodded at my response, turning the lamp off and letting me rest my head on his chest.
I woke up, frowning when I found myself lying on a couch. I sat up and looked around, recognising the dark basement of Eichen House.
'Good, you're finally awake.' I gasped, staring at the figure that crouched in front of me, 'I missed you, pet.'
'It's not you, this is a dream!' I shook my head frantically.
'Oh, come on. Why would you dream about me when I'm already here, when I'm always here?' he chuckled at the confused look on my face, 'You seriously think I'm dead? Like I told your little friends, they can't kill me. A part of me lives on in you, it always will.'
