Book 2 - Chapter 1
Hayley's POV"Did you remember to get the drinks?" Madison asks as she walks around the living room while cleaning.
I nod my head as I continue typing on my phone. "Yes, dear," I say without even looking up.
"Oh, and did you remember to stop by the pharmacy?" she asks and I nod again.
"Yes."
"Are you even paying fucking attention to me?" she asks, sounding annoyed.
"Yes."
"Hayley!" she says loudly and I finally look up at her.
"What?" I ask and the annoyed look on her face grows.
"Are you just going to sit there the entire fucking time I'm talking to you?" she asks a little angrily and I sigh.
"I was paying attention to you," I tell her but she looks at me like she doesn't believe me. I sigh again as I put my phone in my lap so I can give my wife my full attention and not piss her off any further. "The drinks are in the kitchen and in a cooler in the garage. I also remembered to pick up some grossly expensive cheese and crackers and other overly priced snacks for the party tonight. And I did remember to go to the pharmacy, I put your things in the fridge. Now, can I finish this important email I'm writing for work?" I ask and she rolls her eyes.
"Whatever," says as she picks a stack of design magazines off the coffee table. "Just make sure you don't take too long because I need you to finish setting up while I go take a shower," she says as she adjusts the stupid decorative bowl of glass fruit on the coffee table.
"Yes, dear," I say and she shakes her head as she leaves the room and heads towards the kitchen. I sigh in exhaustion as I go back to writing the email on my phone.
I don't know why we had to have a party this week of all weeks. I have been slammed at work for weeks and things have finally started to slow down and I just wanted a nice and calm weekend at home but Madison really wanted to throw this stupid party. And after almost six years of marriage I have learned not to fight her on these things too much.

Within about an hour and a half my house is full of people I barely know or have ever talked to. Most of the people here are friends of Madison's, they're people she either works with or went to college with. I have never really talked to any of them beyond polite small talk. The only people I really know who ever come to these stupid things are my best friend Tanya and her cousin Carlos.
Ever since Madison and I met when we were in middle school she has always been this really social person, which is something I'm far from being. She was always the most popular girl in school and that popularity has followed her throughout her life. I know a lot of people through her but really, I only have a couple people in my life that I would actually call friends, and those people would be Tanya and Carlos.
"Hey," Madison says when she finds me standing in the kitchen. "Are you going to hide in here all night?" she asks and I shrug.
"I talked to a few people. I will probably come out of hiding once Tanya or Carlos get here," I say and she nods.
"Is Tanya seriously bringing a date tonight?" she asks as I take a drink of my wine.
I swallow and shake my head a little. "She says it's just a friend from work but I get the sense she definitely wants it to be a date," I say and she nods her head in acknowledgment.
