2. Two Paths

Two Paths

"Where are we going?" You asked Sasuke as the two of you walked through the village. "Aren't we supposed to be going to the front gate?"

"Yeah."

"Then why are we going in the opposite direction?"

"We have like fifteen minutes, right? I want to go to the cafe to get something."

You reached into your bag and pulled out an apple. "You can have this."

"I can guarantee you that I don't want an apple if I'm hungry," Sasuke refused.

You put the apple away and followed him into the cafe. Fortunately it wasn't busy as it was so early. There were only two other customers; other Hidden Leaf ninja you had seen before, but didn't know so well. They were eating at one of the many two-person tables, talking quietly among themselves. As you and Sasuke walked by, one the men, wearing a scarf with a toothpick hanging out the corner of his mouth, gave you a slight smile as he gave you a once over.

Surprising yourself, you gasped slightly and averted your gaze back to Sasuke.

"Can I get two blueberry muffins?" He asked the girl behind the counter. "And you can get whatever you want," Sasuke said, turning to you.

"Really?!" You squealed excitedly.

"Sure."

"Can I get a double chocolate chip muffin, please?" You asked.

The girl took Sasuke's payment and then turned to the racks of pastries behind her and grabbed the three muffins. She put them in separate bags before handing them all to Sasuke.

As the two of you walked out of the cafe, you made eye contact again with that man. You felt your heartbeat quicken as he smirked at you.

"What did you do last night?" You asked Sasuke while walking to the gate.

"What do you mean?"

"Well what was the important thing you had to take care of?"

"Don't worry about it."

"Sasuke!" Naruto and Sakura yelled at the same time as you and your best friend arrived.

"Baby, I'm not even here, I'm a hallucination," you mumbled to yourself.

You raised an eyebrow when you noticed Sasuke hand one of the muffin bags to Naruto.

That's suspicious.

"What time is it?" Sakura asked.

You glanced at the watch on your wrist. "6:58."

So much for your sensei telling you all to be there at seven sharp. It wasn't until around 7:07 when he arrived.

"Finally, you're here. What took you so long?" Naruto crossed his arms angrily.

"Sorry guys, a black cat crossed my path, so I  had to go the long way," He sighed.

You laughed at his terrible excuse. As long as you've known him, he's never given a legitimate reason for anything. It was always 'I helped an old lady cross the street.' 'I saw a cute girl and she asked to dance.' 'Sorry guys, I'm afraid I got lost on the path of life.'
