Cardigan + Tunnels
We had love sawn
into the inner lines of our hearts.
I treaded hopelessly for miles.
I wore it like a cardigan,
knowing every inch and fit.
Looking for a light in the tunnels,
wondering where they end.
They say when you are young
that you don't know nothing.
It is foolish to believe in forever
when you haven't lived long enough
to understand how solid that word
sinks in your bones.
My feet exhausted with each
puff,
fighting to come out of my irritated lungs.
Where is a lift to take up to land?
Punctuate my battle,
It is a day after day,
week followed by another week.
It is months and years together,
longer than moments spent cuddling.
Called a memory,
one day it'll be gone if you don't
savour it.All Rights Reserved
