"Who's there?" I ask even when I know it's Josh's parents, but just to confirm. There was no reply. I walk up to the door to open it when I see a young man with boxes carrying them inside. "Hey, what's going on?" I ask putting my hand on my waist as I see Natalia coming. The man didn't even look at me, he was more concentrated on what he was doing.
"Hey, I'm talking to you!" I yell but the man doesn't even look in my direction. What's up with this guy. "Um, that's Derick, he's with Josh's parents." Natalia said in a low tune. "Is he deaf?"
"No, he just does whatever he's told." Natalia says moving closer to me.
I see a middle aged woman, probably in her forties with her dirty blonde hair packed in a messy bun walk up to the door. She must be Josh's mom. Oh my God, I just hope this is going to turn out well. I squeeze my hand real tight as her aqua blue eyes scans me from up to down before a huge smile finds its way to her face. Damn, she looks so good when she smiles. I guess that was the only thing Josh must have taken from her.
Edna looks more like her but the worst thing is none of them took her beautiful eyes.
"You're even more beautiful than I thought." She said touching my dark brown hair. "Where are my manners? Hi, I'm Kayla, Josh's mom and you must be...."
"Winter." I said cutting her off as I see a man who looks so much like Josh but the older version of Josh walk up to her. He's obviously Josh's father. "And this is my husband, Tristan." She said as Tristan brought his hand for a hand shake.
"So where's Josh? He's been so excited when he heard we were coming." She said smiling. "Um actually Josh went out couple of hours ago. He said something urgent came up so he had to go." I say as I see the expression on her face change. She must have been dying to see him. I wonder what was so urgent.
"O-okay." She said before letting out a huge sigh and coming in. "Natalia, hope you've prepared our room?"
"Yes ma'am." Natalia answered as Kayla went to her room leaving me and her husband alone. There was an awkward silence until he broke it.
"So how has been your stay with Josh this few days." He said calmly reminding me of my dad. "It's been great, though sometimes annoying but I've learned to cope with it." I said honestly.
"I'm so sorry if Josh has been giving you any problems, the thing is we've been away for really long time. He and Edna just had to cope living alone when he was fifteen. I know how hard it must have been for them but I we couldn't just let the company die like that. It's our family business. I'm sure you'd get to know him well someday." He said smiling.
"Meaning Josh should be twenty by now right?"
"Yeah, didn't he tell you?" Tristan asks looking confused. "Nah, he didn't even want to tell me what he does for a living." I say as he gives me a really confused look.
"I'm so sorry, a lot lot has really changed. He wasn't anything like that before we left for London. He's still in college but their on a short break now." He said apologizing in his stead. "It's okay."
Where did Josh get this his annoying character from. I mean see his dad for goodness sake. He should have at least taken after him.
It's so unbelievable, I can't believe Josh is still in college. I just hope I'll not end up in the same college with him. It would be a disaster.
"I heard you just finished high school, so what are your plans for college."
"I'm trying to start saving up for college." I said regretting what just came out from my mouth. Well, maybe Ash was right. I'll just go with her option. "Wow, that's great, but don't you think that would take forever?"
"Yeah, but I'll work extra hours and get a reliable job that pays well."
"Okay, and what university is that?"
"Yale." I answered immediately.
"Whoa, I don't think you'd be able to meet their fees by just working extra hours. Why don't we just pay for your college fees. It'd be nice cause Josh actually goes to Yale."
You've gotta be kidding me. This man is too nice. I can't believe he willingly wants to sponsor my education in Yale. On second thought, I don't think I'll be taking Ash's advice. Who'd give this opportunity away? I mean, this has been my dream.
"You'd seriously do that for me?" I say in excitement. "Yeah, you're my daughter too. I'll do anything to make you happy." He says as I hug him tightly. "Thanks so much. This means a lot to me."
"You welcome honey."
Now I see why Josh missed his parents so much. Even though my parents say that word often, they'll rarely do anything this much to make us happy. Instead they just made the worst mistakes of their lives thinking it was the best.
I guess getting to meet them wasn't a big deal after all. They're actually nice people. I can't wait to tell Ash how everything is going.
"What's going on here?"
