Chapter 4: Never lose hope

The next day they went out to every house asking about what happened 10 years ago but the same answer was repeating over and over « I'm sorry... I can't help... I can't remember anything... ».

The people they ask always seemed confused and they felt awkward once they hear the question like they want to talk but something was blocking them, Adam noticed that but he assumed that because the people of the city were not that close to each other and not open, all they did was partying with each other, and when it was over, everyone goes in his own way, there were no strings attached. So after a long day of walking around the city asking about the mysterious past, they got nothing only tired feet and exhausted to the point where they could not stand anymore. They went back home disappointed without any answer, Anna said:

· You really don't know anyone who can remember this past and can actually help us?

· Hmmmm let me see! I don't think we can get anything from the people here, as we saw today no one remembers anything so we have to go out and look for someone who actually knows something.

· What you mean! There's hope.

· There is always hope, you just need to believe in it, and have faith that everything is going to be alright Miss Anna.

· You're so right.

She said it with sparkles in her eyes. That was the first time someone says something that touches her cold heart.

· Then let's do it, let's get out of here. Anna said.

· It's not that easy, you know! I didn't tell you yet about our city. Even that you'll consider it as heaven on earth, and the perfect place to live in, but there's one thing you should know, we have some rules since...... he forgot what he was going to say, although he had the idea but it just faded away

· Since what Adam, What happened? Anna asked

Adam stopped for a bit and then continued:

· I don't know what just happened to me, like I knew it but once I want to say something it slips away. Adam said with devastation

· Anna knew there was something suspicious in this whole world, something she need to find out, she felt something moving inside her like excitement and responsibility to help Adam and everyone in this city to get back their memories, they need them, otherwise how can they evolve if they don't remember their past rather it was tragic or joyful, they must have learned something from it, those lessons can't just fade away like that, so she asked Adam to continue and not mind the forgotten detail.

· Ok! So one of the rules is that: no one from the citizens of the city has the right to get out from it, no matter what reason he has, or who is he, this rule applies to everyone and if someone has enough courage to do it, he will get punished in the cruelest way.

· That is a really big problem! Now how can we know about the past of this city? ....... I think we should just forget about it and move on. Anna said with disappointment

· Miss Anna I guess you forget about one little detail, you're not one of the citizens of our city so the rules don't apply on you, you are free to go wherever you want, and no one will know about it.

· You are right again! You just keep surprising me; you're smarter to be just a Baker.

· Oh trust me Miss Anna I love my job.

· I already know that, you don't have to explain anything to me, the look on your face while you were working reveals your true feelings towards your job, and please.... Stop calling me Miss Anna, we're friends now; "Anna" will do just fine!

· Yeah sure.....Anna!

· Much better. So now about the mission how can I get out of the city?

· Oh it's a very long and dangerous road but I'll go with you, you didn't actually thought I'd leave you go out there all alone?

· But they will catch you, and kill you if you went with me!

· Don't worry about that, I have my ways and some connections; You still don't know nothing about me

· Yet... Anna said and looked at him with smirk on her face.

· Besides I don't have much left in this city so I'm going to sneak out with you, and I'm not actually intending to come back, after all this time alone in this cruel world I Think I deserve an adventure.

· But what about the bakery? Anna said with a bit of sadness.

· The business was down for a long time until you showed up, you helped me to achieve what I wanted, and so I guess I own you this companionship...Adam stopped for a bit and continued; I guess I'll leave the bakery for my neighbor, he is a good man and needs the bakery more than I do.

· You own me nothing Adam, welcoming me at your house and being my friend is enough but still you are more than welcome ,I can really use of a companion !

Shadow was eating in the background listening to their exciting conversation, until he heard the adventure, the mission, and friendship so he got exited too

· Wait! What about me Anna! Shadow said with a sad face.

· You to buddy, you two are my best friends I'll always need you.

They stopped talking for a while, appreciating that moment full of love and precious feelings, while eating that delicious dinner after a long, exhaustive day they had, Anna always appreciated the moments she had with her beloved ones, and since the death of Madame Elisabeth, the brave and fearless women, Anna was more worried to lose her friends too.

Then Anna said:

· Fantastic! Now let's pack what we need and let us hit this road

· Excuse me what was that? "Let us hit the road "Adam asked.

· Oh sorry! That was just an expression we say all the time it means let's go. Anna said trying to hold her beautiful laughter.

· Ah Ok! But why you apologizing, you didn't do anything wrong

· That was just a thing I used to, I just say it doesn't mean necessarily I apologize

· I think I got a lot of things to learn about your world, it seem interesting.

· Oh trust me you don't, it's an awful place! I'm really glad I got out of it.

They were both laughing like little excited kid who was about to take off his first tooth, afraid, excited and happy, but no one knew what was going to happen in that journey.

They packed all the necessary things in a little bag, food enough for three of them, Anna took with her some clothes just in case something urgent happened, and some extra things like she always do when she's travelling, because she know that anything can happen at any moment, no one knows what the future hold for them, so it's better to have precautions. While they were planning their trip a girl was watching everything through a window, and she heard everything they said; so she went running to an odd house far away from the other blocks, before she entered she said something in a weird language, suddenly the door opened and she got in .

In the room there was a women in the shadow sitting on a fancy, vintage chair with her beast beside her, the girl told her something in that odd language that included the name of Anna.

The friends didn't see that sneaky girl, and they had no idea what was waiting for them.

They started their trip at night so no one will see them getting out of the City. Anna had a backpack full of her clothes, Adam's and Shadow's, while shadow was holding a pack of food enough for them till they find somewhere else outside this city. Adam brought some materials that he had a Long time ago, because he always wanted to start an adventure outside the walls but there were no one to take care of the bakery neither a strong reason to leave it, but then all he cared about was getting back his memories and the revenge for his parents.
