The Missing piece

Chapter 7: The deceptive appearances

Anna Adam and shadow were in their way to the Unknown, to find out the truth; after hours of walking in the city they reached the walls that separates them from the rest of the world, none of them had any idea what lays beyond those walls; The point where their life was about to take a major detour. The sun was about to leave the sky to give its place to the moon when it can shine brightly as the sun did the whole day, so the guards couldn't see them escaping but to make sure of that they made some cakes earlier filled with strong sleeping medicine, so they could walk under their nose safely and they did. Anna took them in beautiful packaging with a stripe in the shape of a flower on it, it looked like a present, hypnotic present, she gave it to the guards to express how much she appreciated the job they did and the security they provide for the whole city, at first they didn't believe it was just a present but her angelic appearance and beautiful features sat some tranquility in their heart. After some hours when the night dropped its black curtain, the guards were deep in sleep, which was the right moment for them to escape. Finally they were out of the city, Adam felt a bit of sadness to leave the place where he lived his whole life but excited at the same time to start something different.

They were just about to enter the great desert where there was none alive, as they heard, they called it "the hole of death" because once someone get into it he never come back, or at least that was what they have been told, but they had to go there if they wanted to get some answers , shadow was so afraid, he had a strong sense of danger , like something bad was going to happen ,as for Anna, she wasn't that afraid because she didn't know how dangerous that desert was, Adam was still hiding a lot of secrets from her. While they were walking they heard something like a roar of some beast under their feet ,it was definitely not a normal animal, that voice was something's much bigger and stronger, suddenly the ground start shaking under their scared bodies and they felt that the sand was drafting them down , they resisted so much trying everything they could but it was all useless they found themselves in the lair of the beast, it was so stinky and disgusting a lot of dead bodies and skeletons it was an awful scene ,then he showed up ,a huge lion with a massive teethes and black skin with a tapered tail ,with a body full of scars and slogan on his chest suddenly he talked with a soft voice:

· It's been a while since I had a visit, how can I help you little friends, I'm sure you decided to pass by my humble home for a reason?

They were all shocked from his reaction and his voice; they kept looking at each other completely surprised.

The beast could see that they were confused so he started explaining:

· I know you're wondering about those dead bodies and skeletons all around but let me introduce myself first My name is "Leander" I'm living here alone for many years, my job is to protect this desert from all those who want to hurt the women, my lady who's living in "The forest of mystery" and this dead bodys just to scare and keep away all those curious people like you little guys, I'm actually a nice guy, Now tell me what are you doing here?

After Leander talker he realized he said something he shouldn't tell to anyone especially to those curious friends he didn't even know and he said:

· Oh no! Too much information I shouldn't tell you, I shouldn't tell you......

Anna replied and she looked more confident after he introduced himself:

· Well sir we want to talk with that woman we believe that she can help us with something.

· What's that important thing you think it deserves to disturb my lady? Leander said with a bit of a massive voice.

· Sir I promise we won't disturb here and absolutely we have no intention to hurt her we just want to know what happened to our city and why my friend here Adam can't remember what happened to him, that's all.

Once Leander heard that Adam couldn't remember a thing he knew that finally someone wanted the same thing he does, because he couldn't remember either, all he know that he must protect that desert and to not let anyone to pass, but now since there was someone who could help him too, there will be an exception this time, Leander said:

· So you're looking for the cure too ,it's been so long that I can't even remember the person I used to be , I think that's the same thing that happens to your friend .

When Anna heard what the creature said, she was sure that something diffidently not normal happened in that world; there was a story behind it and she needed to find out what it was. They thanked Leander over and over because he let them go and they promised him to find the cure and help him to get back his memories. Since one of the things Leander still remember, he had the map that showed the road to the old lady's house, but he couldn't read it or understand anything in it so he gave them the map that will lead them to that forest, it was not that clear but it may be useful for them.

They took it and start walking again out of Leander's lair to the great desert, willing to face anything in their way while they were heading to the Women's house, they didn't know if she was still alive, or if they could make it out of that "hole of death" even the beast who thinks he was protecting her, never heard a thing from her as long as his memory worked.
