Lunox’s Point of View
My phone is ringing. I picked it up.
“Hello?”
[First of all, I’m happy you’re spending time with Gusion but do you know what time it is?!]
“How did you get my number, Ruby? We didn’t exchange numbers.”
[I got it from Pharsa. She doesn’t have a load so—Wait up! Don’t change the topic. It’s 9:50 a.m now. It’s only ten minutes before ten o’clock. We’ll have to gather at the center at 10, did you forget?]
“Right, right. We’ll be right there. No need to panic. We’re not far away from there.”
I hanged up and ended the call. “Who’s that?” Gusion asked. “We have to go. They’re assembling in the center now,” I told him. “We better go. It will get crowded there.” He said and stood up. I followed him. We both went together to the center.
I saw all of the students in Pedelton High School in a line. The students were gathered in place based on their section. I searched for our line but I could not see them because they were blocking my view. They’re too tall! All of a sudden, I can’t touch the ground. “Can you see them now?” Gusion asked. He carried me up! I can see our classmates now. They’re in the corner. “Yes. Put me down now. I found them,” I said. He put me down. “You’re tall. Why did you carry me? You can easily track where they are,” I said. “But you look so cute trying to search them. You even tiptoed. I felt the urge to carry you. I didn’t think that you’re small for your age until now, Lu,” he teased and walk ahead.
“You’re just taller than I am,” I defended. “You’re still small to my eyes,” he answered back. I gave him an unbelievable look. This jerk!
“There they are!” They all said in unison as they saw us walked towards them.
“Why are you late? You’re one of the top players of our section. If each one of you got hurt or didn’t attend, it will be troublesome for us. You’re the best players the section has!” Odette said.
“We’re already in front of you, no need to scold us. So, what now? We’re a little late. What’s the first activity?” I asked.
“Sack race. It consists of five players. Every player puts both legs in the sack and hops around the middle chair and goes back and tags the next person in line. That’s the mechanics of the game. I have made a list of participants. Diggie, Chang’e, Harith, Lylia and Nana,” announced Odette. I appreciate her effort of making a list. But…
“Remove one participant and add Lunox,” Sir Franco showed up. We all looked at his direction. All of the attention is focused on Sir Franco. “You’re a responsible vice president, Odette. All of us knew that. However, as your adviser, add Lunox as a participant to every activity in Intramurals Sports. If the activities and sports intersect at the same time, then let’s follow your list. Change one player and add Lunox. Do you understand?” Sir Franco said. Gusion elbowed me. I glanced at him. He slipped out of the crowd. I followed him. We’re a little far away from them.
He grabbed my arm. “What are you thinking? You’ll participate all of the activities? It will tire the fvck out of you, Lu! You’re not superwoman. You’re a human! The activities this year is never ending. After one activity, the next activity will start. You won’t have time to rest. Let me help you,” he said. I removed his hand on my arm. “I don’t need your help, Gus. I want to prove something and you just need to watch me,” I said. I turned around and went back in line.
“All participants of the sack race, go to the center. I repeat, all participants of the sack race, go to the center.” I knew that voice. It’s Wanwan. She’s the mc of this event.
