019: you could never fail me
It was like my eyes were being forced opened at the bright invasion of light. My hands immediately reached upwards but was followed by instant regret at the literal and audible sound of bone clacking.
My vision blurred before readjusting itself, only hues of green and slight blue accompanied with soft white presented itself, it was then I realized I was laying down.
"Shit! Fuck!" I harshly muttered under my breathe when my mind had successfully restarted. The first thing that came upon me was my squad, Levi and then Eren.
A momentary warm yellow passed my visage before I snapped myself, prompting to rise up but immediately followed by another set of curse words at the ache my upper body was experiencing. The leaves of the bushes blended right in with the green cloak that was draped along my body, making my form almost unrecognizable as it casually disguised itself in the hues of green patches.
My uniform was tarnished to pieces, as if some random beast clawed onto my pants. My left arm was bruised, scratches from different placements occupied my left food, and at my bottom thigh was a large bleeding wound.
Without further notice for anything else, I grabbed onto the nearest trunk to support myself up. I was limping for the first few step until I forced my own, wobbly legs into sprinting.
As quick as I could, I whipped across the trees, trying to search for any other fellow soldier but with the sun gradually setting lower than earlier, I had assumed that a good few hours had come to pass, thus the rest of the regiment must've retreated already.
"Shit." I cursed again, knowing full well I had to get out of the forest as soon as possible. If night time was to strike and I was still out here, I was probably as good as dead.
I traced the path towards where we hooked our horses, silently and desperately praying that they were left alive and well. It was my only hope of getting the fuck out of here. With one final whip of my wire, I landed against the nearest branch, hissing at the sharp attack at the left corner of my rib.
My hands fled to cover the part, felling dried and a new batch of blood oozing at large gash of wound, before looking down at the horses. I breathy sigh escaped my lips at the sight, thankful and relieved that the horses were unharmed before hooking down.
Mounting the animal, I tugged at the reigns before realizing something was missing. My left hand was absent of the leather glove I had held on for years. A slight surge of panic boiled inside me but I had no choice. I had no time to stay and look or it within the corners of these huge as trees and so with a final tug at the reigns, I sped outside.
I wasn't sure if it was by sheer luck or not, but there were no titans in the vicinity as I exited the forest. Frankly, I was grateful at that because I wasn't so sure if I could fight with my body almost drenched in blood and ache.
The growing ache within my wound spiked up as I forced my horse to go faster, so I could actually catch up with the group. As my eyes focused at the horizon in front of me, I was soon met with the sight of my regiment and a bunch of titans swarming behind them.
"Ah shit." I whispered before speeding ahead. None of them seemed to notice me but Levi's voice hurled against my ears, honestly bringing me a sense of relief.
"On past expeditions, dozens of bodies never made it back, these guys will be no different." he ordered.
My body went cold and numb at the words. Were they honestly going to dump all of those soldiers? But with the current situation I couldn't help but understand. It was an open field, not much of an advantage if we were to fight with only our gears.
