034: even if i tried

"Sorry, I'm late!" Hange busted the door open, Moblit peaking from behind her. "Are you still going at it?"

I huffed, finally bringing my arms down. Levi stood unbothered, apron slung in front and gloved hands as he only gave an unpleased look. "Yeah, we're still pretty new about this."

"My hands feel tired from punching." I whined, taking the gloves of before looking over to Hange.

"Sannes! You should know I'm also a novice at human torture, so please bear with me." She exclaimed, moving forward and grabbing one of the tweezers.

"Wait, what do you even want?! Who the hell tortures without asking questions?!" the beaten man fretted. Blood tainted the side of his eyes as well as his cheeks. His cracked nose almost made me feel sorry but I only frowned upon this.

"Oh, right... we do have some questions for you."

"Where are Eren and Historia? Why are you after Historia? What's the Reiss family?"

"Too slow!" Hange shouted when Sannes didn't immediately answer, making me flinch as well. "Can't you see that we're in a hurry?!"

He didn't answer still, and I had to wait for a solid minute for his response but when none came my fist collided with his cheek again, sending an electric feel to course through my palm. I did so again, making him grunt and lightly screech at the impact.

"This is really getting repetitive so please just tell us where the fuck Eren and Historia are." I exclaimed before throwing another punch that made his head lean back, flinging a few drops of scarlet liquid that tainted my apron.

He still didn't answer so I had to peel my gloves off with a huff. Levi noticed the slight bruise in my knuckles so he offered a white handkerchief to wipe it off.

"That's it, I'm heading up with the kids, I'm leaving this to you guys because its fucking tedious." I growled before heading outside for the door, swinging it open before closing it with a loud bang.

The cemented stairs where rough and cold, even against the thick heels of my boots, I could still feel the frigid texture of the floor. The fire of the torches that were slipped to the side elicited small crisps of hissing.

When my hand coiled tightly against the handle of the wooden door that led to the room where the cadets were currently situated, my ears perked up at the ongoing conversation that what I could guess was Armin speaking.

"Let's face it... We're criminals now." I jolted at the word, letting an inaudible gasp as I leaned myself closer to the door to get a better hearing. "The enemies that we're fighting, Where not killing them because they're trying to eat us. It's because they're views are different. No, just the group they belong to... And for that, their lives..."

"Armin..." Mikasa lightly called to snap the kid out of his trance, but instead he dipped his head low and folded his arms on the table.

"All of us... we're not good people anymore."

"Hey, kid..."

There eyes fell on me and Armin jolted at the sound of my voice, the room was eerily quiet as they tried to conform themselves at my presence.

"... The world itself, was never good in the first place."

They're gazes softened and the way they're eyes dilated at my words tugged a string in my heart. It was like they were being slapped by something that they never expected but I guess I should've seen that coming as they were only just teenagers if you were to consider it. Having to endure and grasp the concept of Titans and exposed to the danger of almost being eaten alive is already something, and being brought to violence between humans and beliefs was another.
