chapter thirty five

035: don't take it personal

"Eren will be eaten?" Armin asked.

Hange was breaking down most of the points in the room. With furrowed brows, I leaned againts the cemented walls, shaking my head in confusion. "What the fuck does that even mean?" I asked, throwing a look over to Hange.

"Yes. Eren remembered a conversation between Ymir and Bertholdt. Speculating on that, Ymir was a Titan wandering alone outside the walls. Bertholdt, Reiner and Annie had a comrade that she ate. When a Titan eats a someone, they don't change back into a human. But, what if a Titan eats one of Reiner's comrades? They're humans that can transform into Titans."

"So... you're saying that if a Titan eats a human that posses shifting powers, they turn back to being a human but also obtaining those said powers?"

Hange nodded at my words. "Yes. The other day, in battle, Reiner was throwing Titans at Eren who had escaped. Eren has the powers to control Titans with his scream. He was trying to snatch that power with those Titans. In that case, Eren is just a vessel that is bound to be replaced. Basically, if the government has a titan of their own, they'll be the one to eat Eren."

Before I could even get my reaction out, Mikasa had already stood up, eyes full of drive. The action made me jolt as she tempted to walk away, for reasons I don't know but before then, Levi had already stopped her. 

"Calm down." Levi advised, gripping her shoulders tight. "Even if you go on a rampage, they're not going to give Eren back to us."

They looked at each other for a moment, Mikasa gritting her teeth while she sneered her eyes at his words, probably knowing full well that Levi was correct. I wondered what it would be like if the two actually got into a fight.

"Anyways, we head for the land of Rod Reiss, get ready to leave at once." Levi ordered. The obedient heads of the rest of the cadets nodded in unison, sounding a quick reply before they all went off to prepare themselves. Levi nodded his head to me, ordering me to follow him and I did so, trailing behind his back with Hange and Moblit as well.

Trekking down the stairs towards the bottom, Hange let out a short hum before speaking. "I'll go tell Erwin what we learned about the Reiss Family. I'm sure he's waiting to hear from us."

"Right." Levi shortly replied.

"We can meet up on Reiss' land. Hear from me at the usual spot."

The bowl cut boy looked up to me, in what I could only describe as awe. I tied his hands tight as the other girl who was patrolling with him stayed silent. Connie, Sasha and Jean were scouting the area around the forest. 

"A-are you really the Y/n?" he stuttered out, voice barely inaudible as he gulped. It wasn't fear that crossed his eyes, it was in fact, bewilderment. 

A bit amused by this, I raised my brow, lips quirking into a smirk as I moved back after tying him up. "As far as I know, this is the real me." I motioned to myself, hearing a quick scoff from Levi, who was behind me. He seemed to be in a deep thought up until Jean handed a piece of paper that contained information to him. 

He received it, his eyes glazing over it in a quick manner. "Now then," he started. "Stohess District Military Police. Private Marlo Freudenberg. Same assignment, Private Hitch Dreyse. As for how we'll dispose you..." Levi trailed off, but I knew too well there would be no bloodshed with this encounter. From the looks of it, the two were probably newbies that just so happened to trail into the path we were inhabiting.
