054: nevermind
Located in the North-Western part of Krolva District, Sonne Village stands. It's quite a distance from the center of the district.
A familiar feeling sprouts in my chest, and it almost made my heart cave. Was it longing? I couldn't exactly identify it, nor did I seem to want to. It didn't change much throughout the years. There were new houses, old houses that expanded through time, and houses that persisted as it was.
The scenery remain untouched by the influence of urbanization, up to this day. The vast scape of the horizon was full of greeneries. Everywhere you looked it was met with a daze of nature, every establishment in site was touched by the light of the sun. Full of life, thriving yet peaceful. Sonne Village was serene.
"You haven't answered." Levi's voice cut through my thoughts.
I hadn't noticed that he had been talking to me. Too busy with reminiscing, I felt embarrassed that he had caught me off guard, stupefied. Levi raises one his brows, prodding. He looked impatient for an answer, his hands folded as he tilts his head.
The horses continue to gallop against the pathway as we neared the farmhouse.
"What was that?" I asked.
Levi narrows his gaze. Uncertain, I decided to look away.
"You don't look well. You shouldn't have come if you haven't recovered yet."
Surprised, I shook my head in disagreement. The wagon stopped just by the entrance of the farm. Levi was the first to step down, offering his hand to help me as I followed. The wagon eventually pulled away from us, leaving.
"I'm fine... it's just..."
"Oh, they're here! Captain Levi!" There's a voice that calls. Somehow, my mind ticked at this. It was familiar. It was a tone of an elder lady, calling out to us. Levi was quick to respond, immediately turning his gaze towards the direction of the sound.
Nevermind.
"They've been expecting us." He mumbles, and I had to cut off my response at this.
The elder lady approaches, slowly coming in to my line of vision.
I gulped, eventually making out her features. She's wearing a pleasant smile, holding a woven basket filled with what I assumed to be fresh laundry. Levi lightly tilts his head in respect to the woman as she came close, and when she did, her smile only got wider.
But then it was cut short. She let out a loud, palpable, violent gasp, something I had somehow expected. Her hands falling limp to her sides, letting go of the basket, the white cloth inside spilling outwards.
Her eyes met mine, alarmed, almost like she had seen a ghost spawn right in front of her. Levi looked up, by instinct, wary at the situation. Captain eyed me curiously, and when he had noticed the somber look I held in contrast to the disbelief of the older woman, he seemed to be mystified.
I stayed rooted in my place, head bowing. I crouched to organize the fallen laundry, before standing up again. I shouldn't be here. I felt like I shouldn't have been here in the first place.
"Oh... my..." She whispers, but it was loud. She looked like she was about to sink to her knees. "Oh my..."
My stomach felt heavy. I wanted to vomit my lunch earlier at this sight, but it was inevitable. Perhaps I had been running away from my nest for too long, and it was bound to catch up to me, only that, it was my decision to willingly face it.
"How are you, Old Lady Adeline?"
