015: what more could I ask for?
The sun was starting to set down, a silence that enveloped the whole place soothed my aching muscles. Lately, we've been undergoing tons of experiments in regards with Eren's abilities but today was an exception as the Captain had made us go on a usual round of patrol and by the end of it, we settled by the open grounds to go over the formation Erwin had laid out.
Except that everyone was very much oblivious to the deeper goal that was set within, and only few people had the knowledge to that.
The rest of the group with the exception of Levi circled around Gunther who was instructing and explaining everything to the boy, but I settled back, leaning in to my horse while softly giving it gentle pats as it neighs in satisfaction.
"The special operation squad will be here" He pointed to the area. "Standing by in the center of the last ranks"
"We're pretty far back" Eren commented absentmindedly.
"It's the safest place in the formation. We're even more heavily guarded than the supply wagons. Our goal this time is just to sort and return safely. This expedition is so brief because it's a practice run for your journey to Shigansina."
Eren looked hesitant, eyes casting down and a look of exhaustion etched on his face. "Um... I still don't know what this power is used for..."
"Did you understand what the Commander's question meant?" Gunther asked silently.
Eren shook his head, turning around the rest of us and lastly to me who was standing a bit behind the group since I knew of this already. "Did all of you understand?" he asked meekly.
Eld and Petra shook their head in answers, but I only stared and stayed silent at the whole exchange, not wanting to stir up anymore confusion or suspicion to Erwin's plan. I was well aware that the Commander was trying to expose a possible spy, but I also knew that none of the members of the Levi unit was a rat. But to respect the Commander's decision, I stayed quiet. After all, one can never be too sure.
I vaguely heard Olou mumbling something, trying to come off as a cool senior but was immediately cut off by Gunther. Smirking, I eyed his irked reaction at the interruption.
"It's possible this mission has another goal, but the Commander has decided it'd be best not to reveal that objective. So we should just focus on how to get there and back" Gunther answered while rolling the map up. I was mildly interested how he was always able to keep on, although he didn't get to uncover the whole objective.
"Just trust the Commander" he told Eren.
The boy nodded in affirmation, stern and convinced.
"That's all the training for today. Prepare to return to base" Gunther informed. The rest of us followed suit and mounted our horses. Levi was entirely for the whole while before he climbed up his own horse.
"When we get back, clean the stables and feed the horses, Eren" he ordered. The boy nodded obediently, but I frowned. He had been going through a lot this week with all the experiments and training so I wanted to volunteer for him but before I could say anything, Levi turned to me.
"And you're watering the plants by the garden, Y/n" he muttered without hesitation.
I mentally face palmed and sighed at the order, but without delay nodding and agreeing. What the fuck was I suppose to do? Deck him in the face because I was annoyed? and to think we were finally getting along, but then again, the chores he's been giving me had gotten a bit lighter than usual so I guess that was improvement.
