042: how the hell do you know my last name?
You could say everything was starting to piece together around here.
With Historia finally taking her place as Queen of the Walls, the false democracy the old bastard king made had finally fallen and a new hope for the people. Although Historia had claimed to be an enemy of the walls, her kindness still exceeded anything.
She made an orphanage for the children from the underground, and the scouts from our squad had helped her organize things around. Levi was by her side in advising and making sure things were clear as he was from the underground himself. He supported the idea, and with that, everything was going smooth.
"Executive Officer Y/n." a firm voice noted and I jolted from the stack of paper works I was currently buried in.
"You scared me!" I exclaimed sighing as Erwin smiled, standing in front the office table I was situated at.
"Hardly." he commented. "The title fits you." he praised and I almost groaned at it.
"Oh please. If I had known that being promoted to Executive came with as much paperwork, I would've stayed Senior Scout for the rest of my life. Now, I'm beginning to understand why Levi would tend to shit half of his work to me from time to time, paperwork is tedious as fuck, how do you even put up with this, Erwin?"
Due to the Military purge, considerable talent was lost from humanity's forces and thus there were new recruits and replacements. Promotions were placed to the veterans who deserved it and since there were newbies placed in the Scouts, quarters were adjusted for accommodation, Levi and I being one to agree that we would share a room, just with different beds of course.
"You'll manage." Erwin replied and I frowned. Although I was almost done, it was still tiring to stick my nose in reports and all the things the scouts noted to. Plus, with Levi assisting the queen in her projects for the orphans and the needy, I had to temporarily take in his position in overseeing the patrol reports for the Special Operation Squad.
After Erwin's little chat, he had excuse himself to take care of things he needed to tend to as well. Yawning, I stacked all the folders I had managed and placed them in the corner for an assigned cadet to take later.
Hange was busy with her own thing as well. With Eren's recent and constant Titan hardening experiments underway, the genius woman was able to create an Anti-Titan weapon without having any soldier sacrificed for the best. Her mind worked in wonders and if I was right, Levi and some other scouts with Moblit are overseeing its success now.
I just hoped everything turned out great.
It was sundown when I retreated to our shared room. By routine, I knocked first before opening the door, only to find it empty. It was to be expected with Levi's business. Having him as a roommate was a knack. Everything had to be clean and pristine and any unorganized mess must be sorted out or it would result to an argument.
I sighed, sitting down on my bed, adjacent to his before readjusting my coat.
And then there was a knock on the door.
Levi made his way in, looking burnt than usual. Today was a very busy day for the Corps much less since it was a prep day tomorrow.
"I'm back." he announced. We had hardly seen each other the whole day.
"Welcome home, Ackerman." I called and he acknowledged me with a hum, before settling in his own bed, sitting with a huff and facing me. "Every since I told you my last name, you've forgotten to regard me with my first." I smiled at this. I just found it quite amusing how he couldn't verbally retaliate whenever I called him by his last name because he had no idea what mine was.
