"Faith Healer" By Blaqk Audio
. N I N E T E E N .
Abel’s head snaps up at the sound of Iris’s voice making Xavier tighten his hold on her arm. He doesn’t like the way he’s looking at her with his now blood red eyes and his fangs bared. Xavier doesn’t need to look into Marianne’s mind to know how she brought the boy to life again. He’s seen her do it before.
Its an amazing thing what vampire blood can do to the moldable human body. With enough given to heal the body all that is left to do is jump start the heart. In the older days one could do it with enough will but now all you need is a few adrenaline needles and spot on aim.
Xavier had seen Marianne do this before with the older method with another one of her creations, a young boy named Isaiah. It was in the late eighteen hundreds and they had come upon him when in hung from a tree. Xavier got him down as soon as he spotted him but he was many hours dead. Marianne though was a woman possessed and nearly drained herself dry feeding. Afterwards she had Xavier reach into the boy’s chest and start manually pumping his heart.
The boy came around but when one is so deep in deaths clutches something changes about them, something fundamental. Isaiah became insatiable with his appetites and soon not even Marianne could control him. She never learned from her mistakes though if Abel’s change was any indication. All in all the situation had Xavier ready to snap the woman’s head clean off and this time he’d make sure he succeed.
“How?” Iris whispers in a barely audible voice.
“That is a question we were hoping you could answer.” Diana, the blonde council member asks.
Keeping his hand on Iris so she stays at his side he turns towards the council with his teeth bared and his eyes blazing. “You can’t seriously believe she created him. Bringing someone back from the dead would take much more strength than she could possibly possess at this age.”
“He was dead?” Chao-Xing asks. Her dark almond shaped eyes narrowed just slightly.
“I killed him myself. Snapped his neck in half when he became addicted to my companions bite.” Xavier bites out at them. “I didn’t tell her of the hazards if she did not kill but I thought she was too young to even be able to stop. The boy cut himself and let her instinct rule in the moment, he was dangerous so I took care of it. The fact that he stands before not only alive but fully transitioned is as much a surprise to me as it is to you.”
“But it is a surprise to your young one?” Diana asks this time.
Xavier’s blood boils in his veins. “She did not turn him. I was with her from the moment his heart stopped to the moment the sun had risen in the sky. She couldn’t have turned him.”
“Then who do you suggest did, Brother Xavier?” Kasim chimes in. “I doubt you would defy this council twice and make yet another companion for yourself.”
Xavier’s lip curls up at the very idea. “I wouldn’t give that boy a drop of my blood let alone enough to change him.”
“And you?” Diana asks the boy. “What do you have to say about all this?”
Abel bares his fangs at her, his eyes wild, instead of answering her. Its clear to Xavier that Marianne took it a step too far and this boy’s brain was beyond repair. The body can be healed but the mind is tricky, sometimes it takes, sometimes it doesn’t. In Abel’s case it seems that the madness has spilled into his eternal life as well.
