you told me people are like the moon

that up close you can see all the brutality it has endured: the craters, the blemishes

but you have to zoom out...

and see the bigger picture

the bruises are what make us beautiful, you said; unique

that imperfections make us perfect

it shows how we progress and grow

the cuts and bruises heal

and there is not such thing as permanent damage

no matter how fucked i am

i can heal

you'll always see me for what i am

you are ever the optimist, my dear.

i told you people are like the moon

from earth we see a marvelous, heavenly thing; the epitome of majesty and grace

but you get closer to the moon

and closer

and closer

and you see it really isn't that perfect

that it has hideous scars and holes

you never know until you see it up close

you realize just how much damage has been done

i don't think of it as progress

i think of the craters as a person's own special mark on us

instead of craters,

they're everlasting burns
